How many photos do you keep on handy, ready to scrap, at any one time?

I placed a HUGE order earlier this spring with Walgreens when they were having a big sale (several hundred photos) and I haven't gotten through all of those yet (but I am working steadily on it!) But they were having another sale and I hated to miss it, so I just ordered about 150 more pictures and if I have time tomorrow I may place yet another order! Am I crazy to have all of these photos on hand? I just hate the idea of having TIME to scrap, but no pictures ready. (We live pretty far away from any stores, so it wouldn't be handy for me to just "run" to the store to grab a few if I was "photo-less".)

Just wondering.................P

I generally buy photos when I can get them on sale and then work on getting them kitted once they arrive at the house- I do however print photos at home as well so I don't wrorry about having enough photos on hand.

If I was worried about having photos on hand I would make sure I kept enough for a week supply of scrapping. For me that would be about 100 pictures on hand- figuring on averaging 3 regular size photos per page so it would be enough for about 33 pages- I would say if I am really scrapping I can easily do 5 pages a day. I figure if I ordered before starting most places my photos would be delivered within a week.

I am in the same boat as you- it takes 30 minutes to get anywhere I can pick up photos from the house and I probably go out to town no more than 1 time per week.

My DH will tell you about a few million!
However, what he keeps forgetting is that all the photos from years past were in the sticky albums way before I knew they were bad for my photos.... so when I started scrapping & found out that they were bad for my photos.. I took them out right away and now have them in boxes divided by years until I find the albums for them I need... I have not been scrapping when we established our family except very special events/moments/photos...so all those million photos are going back into albums with protective sleeves. I do usually however, journal about the photos even though they aren't scrapped...

I too also buy when prints are on sale...so I buy about a 100 at a time or whatever depending on how active we have been... Sept/Oct have been very busy... so I'm in the process of ordering 200 now... I'll scrap a majority but the others I will put away for the kidlets... :) They each have their own box and any extras they pick.. it's amazing how many my kids want of their siblings events... I think I have raised a very close knit little group and I'm happy for that...

I don't print my photos at home because I despise my printer.... so unless it's a kid project I don't even waste my time.. It takes me about 10-15 to any store..but a majority of the time, I pay online and have my DH pick them up on the way home....

I usually order them if there is a good sale. Unless they are vacation photos. For some reason, I want them all printed ASAP! I keep everything for the scrapbook (tickets, brochures...), so i like having all the pics so I can kinda match them with the stuff and keep everything together.
So after vacation, I usually have a couple hundred pics on hand.
Other than that, as long as I have any amount of pics handy to scrap, it's all good.
We were printing them out at home, so when ink and paper would be low, I would start to have an anxiety attack if I was down to less than 20 pictures on hand...i'm getting chills thinking about it...lol

Right now, I have about a year and a half worth of pics, plus two WDW trips. I have really been too lax about getting pictures printed in a timely manner, though; I haven't had anything except WDW printed since winter of 2008.

I have all my photos that are predigtial but I'm way behind on printing digital photos. So, when a sale comes up I will print a month or two worth of photos.(my photos are sorted by month in iPhoto) Typically that's a few hundred per month.
I like to have as many photos on hand as possible because I never know what I want to scrap. My problem right now is trying to get through the old stuff (1990's) and use my supplies, which are mostly for the new pics. So I work backwards and forwards at the same time.

I need my pics in front of me to pull papers and what not so it's important to have a good selection of pics to choose from.
Since you live far away from the stores, I would definitely keep printing when you have a good sale.

I usually print off a month or two at a time, unless I have a big bunch - like vacation photos. I recently had two offers - o0ne was for 100 or 200 photos, and one was for free shipping. You need to read the small print, as I found if I went for the 200 pic bundle, all the prints over that 200 would be charged at the normal price and there might be additional postage. So I rodered the 200 bundle first, then went back and did the free postage for the extras:thumbsup2

I've pulled and scraped all the pictures since my kids were born (eldest just turned 16:scared1:) and done wedding and honeymoon albums, but all the ones before that are still in "bad" albums :guilty: as I've not really decided what I want to do with those yet. I don't have a lot of very early (early teen and before) as my mum has all those - I keep asking her to sort me out a few so I can do some layouts but no luck yet.:sad2:

A bookshelf full...which is two years worth at the moment. I've been getting pictures when they're on sale too, and always get my month's worth at ArtsCow. I'm with you, I'd much rather have them on hand ready to go. I think that's the biggest frustration with my 365 project - I don't always have everything printed out and so I get stuck waiting to finish pages.

I probably have 6 years worth. It's pathetic. I've decided to just start getting pics in albums and go back to do journaling when I'm sitting in the chair at night. Levi still has almost 4 years in the old albums that I need to pull out but I'm so overwhelmed with what I've got that I'm waiting. Erics almost 9 and I've got 3-4 years of his life in scrapbooks, Levi is 11 and he's got about the same + the albums.

I'm not that far (20 mins on a bad day) to walgreens but I wait for sales to get them printed. Now I'm waiting on money cause even with a sale this next group is going to break the bank. Labor day weekend I took almost 800 alone plus I've got august too and all since then. I'm figurin it will be well over 1500 by the time I print (OUCH).

I have a 13 hour crop the end of the month my goal is to finish 06 for Eric and get a good start on 09 for Levi. Unfortuately the other crop is opening day of hunting season (youth) and I HAVE to be in the house for the "good news". I'm planning on using that as a crop day here and getting Eric's 09 started. Hopefully I can do it.

Since I'll be a long time running out of pictures I would say I'd have to have at least 200 on hand to be comfortable that's about 2-3 months worth of the boys.

I'm:lmao: here--I remember several times when I was planning to go to a crop but I was COMPLETELY CAUGHT UP on my pics, and I'd have to take more just to have something to work on at the crop!

That will probably never happen again.

Pre-digital photos, well I have 2 CM Power Sorter boxes crammed full, plus 4 other photo boxes crammed full, plus 4 large baggies that are too full to close (anyone think I need a couple more Power Sorters?). So, I could scrap for a couple of years on those. I really should get to work on them and might take my youngest niece/nephew books to the November crop I'm going to. They're 10 and 12 now and I think I left them at 3 and 5

For current, digital pictures, I print them when I feel like scrapping. I go to CVS or Target or Costco once a week and just print what I need. Right now I'm sitting on a coupon for Costco for 100 free prints. I really need to Photoshop my pictures so I can get those printed, but the coupon is good for a long time, so no rush.

I guess I am in the minority here. I generally have 2-3 pages worth of pictures and order as the ideas come to me. I have tried the "order when they are on sale" tactic but that does not work for me because I find that generally the only size of photos on sale is 4x6 (if anyone can clue me in otherwise please post!) and I like to mix sizes. I also get bogged down with that many photos laying around.

Like most of the pp...I purchase when photos are on sale!! :) I have a huge stack right now, but I am also in the middle of several projects for other people!

I do pre-edit my photos so that I can order a 4x6, but it actually has 2 photos on it and looks like 2 almost-wallet size photos.

I like using smaller wallet size photos for a lot of pages and using one big dramatic photo with them.

There's a sale at Walgreens? Can you share please?

I have right now 300 photo's in my photo divider thing. I would like to get more printed b/c I seem to bounce around w/ what I am in the mood to scrap each day but am waiting for a sale somewhere. I did get 50 free from CVS, going to use my husbands email to get another 50.

I've not mastered the "making 2 small pics into one 6 x 4" - is there an easy way to do this? I mostly upload from my camera to my PC and then from the folder to the online site.

I never print my own, and only buy when Walgreens has a sale. But, I have two dresser drawers full of old photos that I am working on (slowly), as well as the new ones. Even after I've scrapped a trip or event, I have some trouble tossing the extras because I might need them "someday".

My style has changed recently - I used to "document" a trip or event. Now, it seems to be all about the 'stories' and if some random photos don't get used, well - so be it.

I was going to come ask the same question. I don't use PhotoShop. I usually just download my pictures to whatever website I am ordering from and go from there. But I use have been using more wallet size photos lately and hate paying 99 cent for them (well, actually for 4 of them... 2 of which I don't usually need!). Is there any way to do this in a Word doc and then save it as a jpeg??

Thanks in advance............P

I have waaaaaaaaaaay too many pictures on hand!

CVS used to print 2 4x3s and 4 2x3, but now they don't! Why not?!

Gals, I use picasa... it gives me the option to put photos into a collage.. many different sizes.. let me open it and see what I get...
I know I can make them 4x 6 or 5 x 7...

Ok,
When I open up picasa it moves all my photos into this program... so I have to delete the folders I don't need (ie my kids download a flippin' clip art!)...

Ok,
I select the photos I want....than click on create a collage...
...then click on page format...4 x 6 or 5 x 7 or many others.. I can get whatever number I need printed on the size I choose..
so if I choose 6 photos on 4x6, I get 6 photos... small print...
I can also choose other options.. like mosiac and shuffle the photos around... so if I want the one of the 3 kids the largest, I shuffle till that photo is the largets... than the other photos are varying sizes around it.. the program also allows you to adjust the grid marks so if you want to cut them down to individual photos..

Does that make any sense?
I really like it and upload them just as regular photos and they have printed them without the increase cost...
