How many people will stay off property and/or vacation elsewhere?

Will Disney's new packages/lack of discounts affect you?

  • No. I'll go anyway.

  • Yes. I will stay off property instead. If Disney won't reward loyal guests like me, the heck with

  • Yes. I will vacation elsewhere and Disney won't get a single dime from me.

My mother wants to stay at the Poly or Floridian. I told her $540 and $620 respectively a nite for the concierge level.

Unless my mother is going to be treated the way I was at the beach club for $149 a nite including taxes in 1992, she is not going!

This is your mom's vacation and she is paying for it, right? Then let her stay where she pleases.... you never know, it may be VERY worth it for her.

I " voted with my feet ". I called the Swan/Dolphin and booked a room there for the last three nights of our stay. I saved a whopping $ 1107.18 on three nights !!!!

My feeling is that Disney is blatantly saying " we got you sucker, you already have an annual pass, so we are moving on to attract new customers ", which is entirely within their right. But Disney has done nothing in my past few trips to make me confident that I would be getting my money's worth. However the S/D are saying " we want your business, and are willing to give you incentives to stay here ".

I agonized over this decision for a long time. The Poly has been a dream of mine. But I finally decided I had to take a stand on this new policy of package only discounts.

"It's definitely worth the money for me. I will continue to go to WDW, and will happily pay rack rate. I have never had anything but a magical experience (and yes, I've been there recently). Part of the reason for that is that I bring my own magic with me."

I agree with you 100%, Beth. I don't go to Disney because it's cheap. I expect to pay rack rate and then am pleasantly surprised when a code comes through. If Disney doesn't give out a discount, ok. If they do, ok. They certainly don't owe me anything more than what I am paying for. I understand that Disney is expensive and I go with the idea that a Disney vacation is going to cost several thousand dollars. Yes, I could vacation elsewhere for less, but I have yet to find something comparable to WDW. If you're not comfortable with the way that Disney does business, go elsewhere, but don't complain because they're not giving you a discount.

Well said.... BRAVO!:)

My next stay is at Courtyard DTD. Have stayed on property several times in recent years but no AP discount right now makes those DTD hotels too tempting to pass up. Perhaps a bit less magic but the price is right! I expect a bit more hassle with transportation but frankly the bus from BWV to MK was standing room only most of the time in June!

How wonderful for you. Perhaps WDW should offer discounts to those who bring their own magic.

AP'ers have every right to complain. In the past, Disney has used discounted rooms as an incentive to sell AP's. What if you paid full admission price to the Magic Kingdom only to find most of the major rides were shut down for rehab? Although Disney is within its rights to do this, wouldn't you complain?

In the past

Exactly!!! In the past, things were different. In the past, discounts were needed to fill rooms. Instead of complaining about the lack of discounts, be grateful for the great rates that you had when you had them. Disney has not said that there will not be any AP discounts. They have not released any as of yet. There is a BIG difference there. Further, an AP costs about $400, that's the cost of 8 admissions to the park. Go to the parks more than that, and you're coming our ahead. That's what an AP is for, not room discounts that may or may not come to fruition.

If most of the major rides have been shut down, then I'm not getting what I paid for, am I? But so long as the AP allows the guest unlimited access to WDW for one year, the guest is getting everything that was paid for at the time of purchase.

I don't need someone who's obviously been inhaling too much pixie dust to tell me what I should or shouldn't complain about or be grateful for. That's my wife's job.

Thanks for making my point.

Nice try, but no go. I didn't make your point, I refuted it.

For those that buy APs, so long as they are able to get into the parks, they are getting what they paid for. You seem to be under the impression (mistaken, of course) that when buying the AP, they suddenly became entitled to not only unlimited park access, but resort discounts as well.

There is no such entitlement.

Exactly. When you pay admission to the parks, that's all you're paying for. There is no guarantee any of the rides will be operating. (Read the front of your ticket sometime.) Of course, one expects the rides will be operating because they have in the past. The same goes for AP's and discounted rooms.

Sorry, but I still see this as an utterly ridiculous and invalid analogy.

But it is good to see that the "something for nothing" ethic is still alive and well in America.

And I don't need someone with an overblown sense of entitlement shooting his mouth off. The bottom line is you got what you paid for - unlimited admission to the WDW theme parks - no more, no less.

How clever! Here, let's try this one: "I know you are .. But what am I?"

Wait!!! Do you mean that I'm not entitled as a FL resident SP holder to get the GF for $100/night with my SP? ;)

Sad, but true, Brenda. You are not entitled to that rate, however, I understand that the Poly has lovely lagoon view concierge rooms available for $25/night. Good thing you bought that pass...

Hey, I couldn't get a job, so it was either go to prison or join the Air Force. Unfortunately, the prisons were full ..

I've stayed at the Poly. $25 a night is still too much ..
