It seems to be a very common subject on the boards so I was just wondering...We switched last year from WLV to CBR and will be doing a switch this yr too-from BWV to ?...Last yr we split it up 4 nights WLV, 5 nites CBR, this yr will be 5 and 5. Don't think we'd do it for a stay that was less than 8 nights. How about you guys?

:cool1:

DH & I do this when it is just the two of us and we have at least six or seven nights to stay. We split time several years ago between POFQ & the Royal Pacific at Universal. The last two years we have split time between the WL & the AKL. This year we will be splitting between POFQ and the POLY. We love switching resorts! It makes it seem like two vacations! Of course, when we have extended family in tow we usually have to get several rooms at one of the values and those are shorter trips.

I voted for never. And that is how it is, until October. A little nervous about it, although the advice from this board is making it better all of the time. I am sure I will want some advice from the experts as the time draws near.

this past Oct we did VWL & CB

this Aug we have 5nights Pop, 3nights WL & 6nights BCV -

This past January we split our stay between the WL and AKL. I'm making a solo trip in May and will be doing two days at POP, rent DVC points for BWV for 5 days, than back to POP for two days (if AP codes come out that is--otherwise I'll be at BWV for 5 days and just two days at POP). I'll be taking my son and D-I-L down in late Sept-early Oct and plan to rent DVC points for OKW for 5 nights and do two nights at either POFQ or CB. Going solo again in early Dec and would like to rent DVC points again at BCV or BWV and then do a few nights at a Value. I like switching resorts. It feels like two vacations in one and besides with Disney moving your stuff, it's so easy..

We have never switched resorts-most likely due to the fact our stays have never exceeded 8 days. If we did stay longer-I am not sure we would consider switching mid stay to another resort for a few reasons. We like to check in, get settled in the room and be done with guest services until check out. Friends of ours split their stay once and spent a day trying to iron our the problems with their new resort's room key and then later found out their park passes were never added. I think we just prefer to check into our temporary "home" and not have to worry about our resort until check out. :)

I am doing it for the first time this year, it does make the vacation longer.

1970 - Disneyland
1999 - All-Star Music
2003 - Port Orleans Riverside
2004 – Contemporary
*2005* – Coronado Springs Resort/Polynesian

when we split it last year, I was kind of sad leaving the WL because I love it there so much (might be my favorite?), and unfortunely the CBR didn't cut it-we won't be staying there again. This year we're going to make sure to go somewhere we'll be more excited about like maybe AKL?..... :confused3 Haven't decided yet!

We just returned Fri from our first visit to WDW and had a wonderful time! We stayed 5 nights at POFQ, then went to WL for 3 nights. I think we will always split if we stay this long again. It was an effortless transition...bell services picked up our bags in our room at POFQ in the AM(they were there to pick up our bags within 5 minutes of our call), went to Epcot for the day, checked into WL around 4PM, our bags were brought up to our room within 5 minutes of our check in. We loved both resorts, it felt like we had two vacations. We can't wait to do this again! Maybe we will mix it up a bit next time, try different places.

we have only done it once - and we were there for 3 weeks. i wouldn't do it again unless i was staying 2 weeks or longer.

Our first trip was at WL. But we were hooked and in our last two trips wanted to maximize trying out new places. Now we have tried most of the resorts we are interested in so we probably not split our stays in the future. Although now that I think of it I would love to try Poly Concierge.

Hi We have done the split twice, first time the akl 4 nights and to the poly 5 nights, next time just this past april, port fq. 4 ni and the poly 5.

Would do it again, but I agree must stay at least 8 nights to feel comfortable with it.

Deb.

dkddis,
that's kind of how I feel-once we've experienced all the resorts we want to try, we won't do the splits anymore-unless we were there for like 2 weeks or more! Hopefully DH will feel the same. ;) But it'll be a while-so many resorts-so little time....

We split our stays for a variety of reasons. We are DVC members and sometimes stay in a regular resort on the weekend to conserve our points (DVC charges more for weekends). We split a DVC stay once because I couldn't get a 2 br at the same resort for 9 consecutive nights. We also split a stay between a value/mod/deluxe when we were trying to save money but have a little luxury at the same time.

In April we are staying at VB for a few nights, then moving to BCV for the rest of our vacation.

However, our most recent stay was 7 consecutive nights at WL and I loved not having to move!

we did it our last trip (but not the 2 trips before), and are doing it again this coming trip (actually, 3 resorts this time - vero, v@wl & poly)... we leave this coming saturday!!!! of the 2 trips we didn't do it, we were 12 days at GF, and almost got bored there (not actually bored, but the excitement wore off). the other trip was only 5 days, so it was too short to switch resorts for us.

my only advice to someone considering doing it is to end the trip with the resort you enjoy the most and don't go from deluxe to a moderate. also, pack in such a way to not have to totally unpack to feel relaxed. i couldn't relax the first part of our trip, knowing the move was coming. it was because i was living out of our suitcases and doing so uncomfortably. we'll be moving a lot this trip, but i'm packing all shirts on our hangers in garment bags that i'll just hang in the closet. An over-the-door hanging toiletry holder, etc. Keeping it simple should help.

i do love staying at 2 places, i just have to get it down to a science to be able to relax. hopefully this time will be better.

This trip we're splitting resorts three times. It's too hard for me to decide on just one hotel. One time we split resorts when we were there for 5 nights.

We split our stay in Jan because we couldn't get AP rate at the same place for the entire stay. We stayed 5 nights at the Dolphin & 6 nights at AKL. We thought we would like being at the two places but we never really unpacked at either place. We took both lightweight & heavier clothing because we were weren't sure if it would be warm our entire trip. I probably over packed. We ended up never really unpacking all of our stuff at either place and grabbed stuff out of suitcases which I hate. We also felt we didn't have enough time at either place to really enjoy the resort. We found out we prefer not to split our stay.

5 and 5 would be good. We tried POR for 5 and could only get the BC for 2. As nice as the BC was dh says he doesn't want to switch anymore. I think it's because after 5 nights we were pretty settled and 2 at BC (dh without telling me until later tried to extend our stay a night but there was nothing available - but wasn't it sweet for him to try?) just wasn't enough for us to feel like it was "home".

I just can't see waiting a whole year for only 1 week at WDW, knowing that the time we have for our vacation is very short, and then spent a part of one day just to change resorts. We will never change resorts during a trip, however, we will try to stay in a different resort each year just to mix things up. JMO :earsboy:

We've only been to WDW once and didn't split the stay then, but we're planning to split between ASMo and CR next time (6 nights in each). I'll let you know how I feel about splitting resorts afterward.
