I'm sorry you are both feeling that way.

I don't feel that it is all that much different than it has been in the past. These things are VERY cyclical. It will be very heated for a while, then it dies down.

I am relatively "new" to the CB.... but I do notice a lot of insults - I think that is sad...

I tend to stay away from the more controversial threads. But I do have to say that I've been posting a lot less on the CB than in the past!!! There are a lot of threads I don't even open.

I dont really want to go into "who the three are". I did not post this thread to ridicle them. I am just hoping the moderators will take note that maybe some of us (I was hoping it was just not me) are really tired of this.

The political threads are really out of control in my opinion. I just try not to even open them up. But now it seems like 95% of the threads when it is just someones opinion about something (does not even matter what it is about). THEIR opinion just CAN'T be right.

5 years ago the DIS just was not like this. I am not new here even though my amount of posting looks like it. When the new board came up I lost my post count. So I do know that during political election time things get a bit more heated, but the things I am seeing goes way beyond this. I am not sure that once the election is over if this will stop or not. It is sad.

Yes, on some of the fluff threads I have seen some people get bashed, or should I say that people were just rude to the OP.

I used to stop by the CB three times a day. Now I'm down to 3 times a week. Its too sad all the trashing and I've had too many "nice" threads highjacked into something negative. And yes, I usually notice its the same 3 or 4 posters.

I have partaken in some of the more controversial or political threads and while yes they get heated - I don't think that is any reason to ban them. If you don't like the way a thread is going then just don't read them. There are many threads I avoid because they annoy me or because I don't like the tone of them. Different strokes for different folks!

I actually learn a lot from the political discussions. There are some knowledgeable folks around here. I don't want to lose that.

It's the personal attacks that touble me - and the twisting of words from something innocent to something hateful.

The political debates can turn hateful very quickly. I work with an instructor of Political Science who used to be the head of my state's Republican Party. We are diametrically opposed on almost every issue--but we are great friends. Political discussion does not have to turn to name-calling.

He called me yesterday to ask if I was going to the rally today (Cheney is in town.) I laughed and told him that I'd read in the paper that there were PLENTY of tickets available--couldn't he find enough Republicans to fill the hall, he wanted me to come?

He laughed along with me. We can joke and debate about our differences without being hateful to each other.

I wish that we could see some of that around the boards--no one is always all right or all wrong. People have different opinions. I love an intelligent debate but not the name calling or taking pot shots at other posters.

Just use your ignore list. My suggestion is don't be stubborn and say, "But I shouldn't have to" or "I don't want to", just do it and see what you think about it. If it doesn't work, then don't use it anymore, but it may be some relief for you. You want the best DIS experience for YOU, and that may help! Ya never know unless you try!

minniepumpernickel! LOL! I can't imagine it EVER being you! You speak your mind, but you are always courteous about it (unless someone starts with you first of course! ), even try to get the point across with some levity! I love having you around!

I used to be able to post here to vent, or ask for serious advice as well as play along in the fluff threads.

I will NEVER post a thread on here looking for serious advice again. It's a shame because I was actually able to get some great advice from the good folks here, but there are certain people who can't go by the old saying, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".

I'm talking about people who actually drag stuff out of one thread and bring it into another where it has no place.

I'm not talking about political threads either. Political threads you rather expect that from. I'm talking about advice and fluff threads.

It's pretty sad that these people have nothing better to do with their time than post mean things on a message board.
