I'm sure you have plenty of affirmation of the benefits of DME, but I'll throw mine in. I usually get to the resort (I stay in All Stars) about an hour after I land, but I usually only have carry-on and take it onto the bus with me. I'm not sure why they close the doors while they unload the luggage, but it doesn't take very long. I've only been on a couple of full buses. It's a very convenient and easy way to get to the resorts.
Some drivers were closing the bus doors in order to hold the guests on board while luggage was unloaded vs allowing passengers off to just grab their bags as they left the bus. With the doors closed, the driver could get all the bags out and staged, so he was then free to 'accept' any forthcoming gratuities..which he may have missed if he had been taking out luggage while other guests were taking their previously unstowed luggage and heading to checkin inside the resort.I have used it 10 plus times and have never had a problem
As for the driver closing the doors, I had that happen a few times but I have taken 4 trips since october and something changed as the driver didn't make us stay on the bus on any of the trips since october. They aren't supposed to so maybe Disney stepped in I don't know.
Now..the drivers would tell you it was a 'safety' issue..but for the life of me, I could never figure out why. Seems the driver said he needed to be there, at the door, to assist guests as they got off the bus.
However, many people complained about being held 'hostage' on the bus....guess Disney got tired of hearing that and has told the drivers they must allow guests off the bus immediately. I do know that I did not tip the driver if I was held on that bus.
