Wanting to know why you need an "in room safe" when you stay at a Hotel or Suite? Is it because Housekeeping comes and cleans your room? Does Hotels give you the option to decline Housekeeping if you want? Anybody had a bad experience getting things taken from a Hotel room?? I guess I need convincing why I should spend the extra money on an "in room Safe", thank you for your replys.

Safes are free at Disney Resorts. Although I've never heard of anyone having a problem at Disney Resorts, I stash all kinds of stuff in mine. Even our passes if we're having a non park day.

We've always used them, never heard of any problems. No charge for them either.

There is definetly a fee where we are staying ( I think at least $2 a day) and it's not in the resort or one of the Disney Hotels. We are staying off site about 3 miles from Disney.

I would rent it, because when we stayed off site the one and only time, my husband had his watch stolen and I had my sunglasses stolen while we were at breakfast and housekeeping had come through. So we lost $400 of stuff that trip because of not useing the safe. At this hotel the safe was free, but broken at that time, we got it fixed and put everything in it.

We keep our travelers checks, checkbook, and our cash in them. I also keep my jewelry and anything else I wouldn't want to get stolen. I've never had a problem, but better safe than sorry.

Some Fl hotels charge you for the safe even if you don't use it. So.. if they are going to charge you use it. I do use it when I am someplace like Disney where I leave things in the room. Otherwise I don't normally use it.

...at the Swan and Dolphin, the safes are free, so we always use them. After being broken into at a timeshare we stayed at 4 years ago, there is no excuse for leaving stuff around unprotected.

When we stayed at the Days Inn in Lake buena Vista years ago...( it's now the Safari Hotel by Sheraton) at check out I was charged for a safe 5.00 a day I beleive. I also remember that it wasn't in the room. Front desk said it was at the front desk, and nothing was mentioned about it during check in, so a told them I didn't like being charged for something I was unaware of and didn't use. They took it off the bill, but had I not questioned it ,I would have paid for it. So just be aware!

I can't believe you were being charged $5 a day and it wasn't even in your Room! That's outrageous! I know I would be totally flipping out if this happened to me. Good to know these things in advance!
