How many of you feel this is still the best investment you've ever made?

Believe me, this is not a 'save money' situation. If I wanted to save the money, I'd have put it into a bank.

I enjoy having a lifetime of Disney vacations. It's a nice thought. When work gets me down, I have this fact to fall back on - I am a DVC member!

To us, DVC was the best purchase we've ever made. I'm still kicking myself for waiting as long as we did, but at least we were more financially stable when we did it. While we don't have children, we have many friends and family including nieces and nephews who otherwise may not get to go to WDW so it's been great for us as we've been able to invite others and share the magic!

WELCOME HOME

Kind of says it all doesn't it!! It is one of the best things we have ever done!!! :cool1:

:) :) :) :) :)
Best investment into my family ever!!!
15 years of investing in family that I would not trade for anything.

DVC was the best decision we made. We only wish we would have done it sooner. We think of WDW as our house away from home. We our DINKS and have enjoyed taking family and friends. My sister last year when she we with us gave me a special hat with tour guide Debbie on it. She said we make WDW more fun and we are the best tour guides for everyone we take. The only thing I wish is that my DH would let me buy more point.

Trips with DVC-WDW, DL, Hawaii and San Diego.

I'll never regret buying a piece of the MOUSE!

You can't beat the overall quality of Disney...
where else can you go that will let you act
like a child again and be the "norm?"
I love it...my family loves it and one day
my grand children will too!

...and it all started with a Mouse!

Purchases that are better than DVC....

The money we spent to adopt our son.
Money spent getting our dog
Building our house
The beautiful deck we put on
The grill we cook on all the time
Buying a snowblower in Minnesota

Investments we prioritize before DVC

Saving for the kids college
Saving for retirement
Having enough investments to not need car loans
Having a good emergency fund

Travel that has been more rewarding than Disney

Europe
Thailand
Mexico

Opportunities I've given my kids that outrank Disney:

Going horseback riding
Going strawberry picking and making jam
Piano lessons, baseball, soccer and gymnastics
Going to Sunday School
Going to Mexico
Going to Monterey and San Francisco

We like our DVC - its an easy vacation. Its way down on the list of things I've spent money on and opportunties I've had.

Okay okay - NOT counting dues. DH and I figured it out last night. We added up what it would have cost us to stay at Disney in the 2 and a half years that we have been with DVC. And when our March trip passes in 2009 - we will have officially "broke even". Love DVC! :worship:

While not a financial investment per se, I consider my purchase of DVC to be one of the best decisions I could make for my family. We are guaranteed a vaction somewhere each year. If I did not have DVC I am certain that I would be dipping into the vacation fund to do something else, like pay for gas or a new higher gas milage car for DH and where would the family fun be then!
As my kids get older--DS will be 17 in Septemebr, I realize just how great family vacations are for really getting away from everything and enjoying your children fully without interruption. He will have to go make his own life soon enough, I'll enjoy him while I can! DD is only 13, but that just means only 5 more family vacations until she heads out to follow her own passion as well. I'll keep my DVC and my memories--they were well worth the investment!

We've made better (and worse;)) financial decisions, that's for sure.
But, I can honestly say this is one of the best investments we've made FOR our family. No matter what else is going on my husband and I can spend a couple of days sitting by the pool at Disney every year. We can eat as cheaply or as expensively as we want. We can go to the parks or not.
And it's great knowing each of our kids and their significant others can do the same no matter what their financial situation is that year. Everybody needs a getaway. Some years more than others!!

I will probably be able to tell you in around 10 years time if it was a good idea, it will be if we can still afford the transatlantic airfare by then.

For large families like ours it just makes sense. We were going anyway and spending alot just for rooms. We have enjoyed DVC and were able to take the children on a Disney cruise in Jan. Never would have been able to afford all 6 of us on DCL otherwise. It is an investment in time with my children and that is worth more than anything:goodvibes

I feel that buying DVC was one of the 4 best things we HAVE EVERY DONE!!
Use that methapor instead of 'investment'... to avoid a word war...

In order:
1. Getting married
2. Buying a house
3. Having kids
4. DVC!!

I think it is a great thing, as:

1. we have had many vacations with family/friends
2. lasting memories
3. Future memories
4. Future vacations with family/friends
5. A possible "mini retirement" in the future.

And, if it happens- that is it sells more in the future than I bought it for, than it was a "good investment"!!!! If it does not, it was "many vacations for a low price and priceless memories"!!!!

deerh:goodvibes

So many of us say DVC isn't and investment and I agree. But, the way we look at it.....it is an investment for ourselves.....so many good times, so much love and fun, so many memories......how can you put a price tag on that???? And, the best part, there is more to come (hopefully).

Members since 95 and are still loving it!!!!!!! Best thing we ever did!!!!!

A great purchase for us. Knowing that we just can't do without a WDW trip or two a year, DVC made sense. I only wish we had joined sooner! We are looking forward to many years of great trips and memories for DW and I and with family and friends.

Call it what you will, We are glad to be DVC owners! :goodvibes This is still my favorite place on Earth! Let the Mouse be the Mouse.

totally agree, it's an emotional investment in family and friends. Financial investments come and go, but the wonderful memories and good times we've had as a result of DVC will be invested in us for ever. We love Disney but we also vacation to the other countries and destinations and those special times I also consider an investment in our family.

It's just a choice of words and interpretation!
