How many of you buy clothes for the kids but won't let them wear them until Disney?

Add me to the list! I just bought a bunch of stuff at the Disney Store today at great prices! Everything is hanging in my closet with the tags still on! I buy items on clearance so I can justify saving summer outfits for end of Sept trip. We won't have much use for them in Chicago area in Oct! I just can't help myself. My older kids and my husband would agree that it is an illness! At least I still have the DS4 and DD2 to shop for. I also bought t-shirts for DH and won't let him wear them yet, he just doesn't get it! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

me too... just stocked up at the last 2 disneystore sales! We are not going till sept. and I already have the kids clothes packed in gallon ziplock bags labeled by the day. My DH thinks I am crazy, but I know if I don't do this the girls could wear their Lilo and Stitch shirts to coral reef and the coral reef shirts to Ohana's!!! Maybe I am a bit neurotic!!! :confused3

Oh, YES!!!! I have my DD6's clothes ready to go. She also got some new shoes for Disney.

OMG, i almost did not reply because it is crazy but i do that all the time, got dd a new swim suit and underwear today and put them away for december, ordered clothes from the childrens place online and packed them for our dec trip, so yes i do it

here is the funny thing, i guess i am really bad about buying disney clothes, because i'll buy something for my dd and she will say is this for disney mommy, and i told her no, it's july are you crazy- :rotfl:

Kelnottatt I have 2 DDs. DD10 will not let me pick her clothes unless they are Limted 2, Holster, or Abercrombie (I blame no one but myself, I have created a picky princess. but you see DD10 never liked to wear pretty things she only wanted comfort :confused3 :you mean that mickey dress w/ ears and gloves are not comfortable?.). DD6 is my puppet I can still dress her in pretty dresses and hair ribbons. and as long as she gets attention she's comfortable. I use to be able to dress them in the same outfits, they loved it. Or was that me who loved it? :cloud9: But now DD10 is to embaressed to wear what her little sis is wearing so i try to get them to wear the same color. This will only work if DD10 is in a good mood.
I'm able to afford to shop because I only by sales and clearence, unless it's a must have. It's amazing what I can buy w/ $20.

Your post made me really sad :sad2: Dressing my girls alike/coordinating is my passion! My girls (4 and 8) are still o.k. with it only my 8 yo is in the biggest size at Gymboree and I don't want to buy my 4 yo Lmtd too! Gap is always a good place to find coordinating stuff. I am really sick though, because even if I don't buy matching stuff I know exactly what outfits go together. I tell myself that I do this so I end up with the same amount of clothes for them, but it really is just my being uptight.

Now the problem for disney is that we go in Sept.????? What do I do???? My girls have to look adorable in the pics, but I just don't want to buy a bunch of new summer clothes just weeks before winter hits us at home in KS!

I learned the hard way that clothes hoarding really isn't the greatest idea.

We took an 18-day trip to Hawaii, just came back a few weeks ago. Fantastic trip! I started buying and hoarding nice clothes for all of us. Well, when I went to pack, NONE of the clothes I had bought dd9 fit. :lmao: she had a growth spurt in a few months! Even the shoes didn't fit! Fortunately I saved the receipts and was able to get refunds on most everything. For DS9, well, he outgrew some of the items but not as dramatic a growth spurt.

For DM (dear Mom--that's me!), well, I went on a diet and lost 10 pounds. :cloud9: None of my nice new clothes fit. :bitelip: Needless to say, the weekend before our trip was a hassle of returning and buying clothes. For dh, well, he packs for himself. However, he didn't even pack the nice, new stuff I bought for him, mainly because I had it "hoarded" away and forget to give it to him! :rolleyes1

Then, to top it off, when we arrived in Hawaii (Kauai) the airline lost half our luggage! :sad2: Fortunately I packed some for everyone in each suitcase so we had some things to tide us over. First day on Kauai, we find ourselves in WalMart (they're everywhere) buying more clothes! Then, the day before we left, the airline found our luggage. We then had "wardrobe overload". No way we could take all that stuff with us. I left a lot of items behind, with a note for the cleaning staff to help themselves, not take them to Lost & Found. We also discovered the USPS flat rate shipping boxes--the boxes themselves are free from the post office. Its a flat rate of $8.10 regardless of weight anywhere in the US (nice to be so far away from home and still in our country!). Well, I decided if something was worth more than $8.10 I sent it home. So I ended up sending home the nice, new stuff (many with tags still intact!), and kept the old stuff. We had so much stuff, at least it solved the laundry problem. I just threw away old socks, underwear, kids clothes, once dirty.

Well, here we are, back home, with nice, new clothes we STILL haven't worn, and kids are starting to outgrow them! Also, I seem to have forgotten where I put dh's "hawaii hoard" :rotfl2: Geeeeez! Next trip, just pack old clothes. Who are we trying to impress? :cool1: Let them think the airline lost our luggage! :dance3:

I'll confess that I do this, too. When kids clothes went on sale last week I stocked up. I'm sure they'll spill on them while we're there, but at least they started out with fresh clean clothes. My husband makes fun of me when I won't let them wear their Disney clothes. :)

I do this as welll....really bad with gd5. Not going until Sept and I already bought her luggage, pj's etc. The younger children I have at home still are old enough where they will let me get by with t-shirts for everyone but they won't wear them on the same day! But, everyone loves new socks and underwear!

I have DD(7), DS(5) and DD(3). My youngest is a real tomboy and HATES pink. At her request she has a "boy's haircut" but with a bit more style. She's not into princeses so last year she wore Mickey, Tigger and Donald T's with "simple" shorts. SO many folks asked me "how old is HE". So when I found some Pooh outfits on sale at Sears without pink I bought her one matching skirt/top (she'll wear a skirt or dress as long as there is no pink or too frilly), teal pooh tank, and teal pooh shorts. I have put them away until the trip. Then I found a really cute white Pooh tank at H&M and bought one for each DD. White is put away for both girls-don't want stains on those. I also bought DS new socks and put those away.

I found a Lady & the Tramp t-shirt at Wal-Mart for dd. We are staying at Pop, so that'll be good for any day of the trip. Even if we're not in the 50s section, I plan to take her picture with Lady. (I'm secretly hoping for the 70s section because of the location and I don't need to be smack on top of a pool).

It can be tough to take a photo with Lady. But you can get a pretty cool shot if the photographer lays down on the ground and takes a photo looking up at child and Lady looming overhead.

Have a great time at Pop! I loved it there on my first trip in May.

I am so gulity of this as well  . I was wxceptionally bad for our cruise. I Love  gymboree's family line that coordinates boy/girl that last summer I was buying clothes a size bigger so that they would fit them this year.

Me too add me to the club. I have bags in the attic so they can't be touched. Everything new...shoes underware you name it. Then I keep a list of what I bought everyone on my computer so I know they have enough to wear - 2 outfits a day. I am out of control - I wonder how much luggage I will need for 5 people. We use to travel with 4-5 suitcases for the two of us I think we are in trouble now.

I do the same thing! I thought that is what you have to do. It never seems like her "home" clothes are good enough for vacations. For our Disney trip, all of her clothes were Disney except for maybe a few t-shirts. I stocked up on PJ Pals from disneydirect.com and shirts and shorts and sandals and swimsuits. It was so cute! Buying new clothes for vacation is the only way to go.

I'm guilty too. In my defense I get the stuff on clearance since we don't take our trip till the fall. I bought my dd who was 11yo at the time all new clothes for our last trip. Of course it was October when we went so she could not use the clothes when she got home. When summertime came again they didn't fit anymore. I did hand them over to one of her girlfriends so I don't feel the money was too wasted.

MYTWOTINKS, don't be sad enjoy it while you can. My DD's are 5 yrs apart DD10 is a couple a wks from turning 11 and DD6 just turned 6. I had a couple of good years. Last yrs Easter oufit was the matching flower outfits from the gap. DD10 had the skirt and blouse ("No dresses mother!" princess: ) and DD6 wore the dress. So, in away I could still get away w/it. We just make her thing it's their idea :stir: . for Christmas I'll go to Heartstrings and got a "young lady outfit" for DD10 and the coordinating "baby outfit for DD6".

As for this yrs trip. They have real pretty rhinestone princess shirts in the disney store and you can get pretty bows to go w/them.

Also I try to enjoy their differences because I get the best of both worlds. :cloud9:

I got DD-4 a special Tinkerbell nightgown and Cinderella shirt/shorts outfit for Disney, and DD-1 a Pooh shirt/shorts combo. I also broke down and bought DD-4 a couple more pairs of shorts since she had outgrown a lot of her others. I didn't go all out, but I wanted to get them something new.

I got a pair of capri shorts since I only had one other pair

Ok..... We go to WDW in Sept and I have this huge stash of CARS bathing suits and towels and flip flops and Cinderella clothes, AND MATCHING DISNEY STORE CAMP SHIRTS to wear so we're all matchy for when the photo pass guys take our picture for my scrapbook with, get this, MATCHING scrapbook paper to scrapbook these photos onto (Do, I get a prize for this neurosis? Isnt Horsegirl a therapist? Mayhaps i should consult with her?) OK, I told myself the matching adorable outfits will be our Christmas card photo this year...Justifying. I have also gotten my accessories and DD2's hair doo-dads to match all her new clthes...its sick. Before the scrapbooking days we just schlepped along in our orphan mis-matched rags and the pictures bug me just a little. Hmmmm... princess:

Just wanted to see if there are other neurotics out there like me.

Every year I buy the kids a ton of new clothes, even underwear, socks and bows, that I won't let them wear until vacation.

Right now we have closets full of clothes with the tags still on that will go directly into the ziploc bags. I justify it by saying that the kids are so messy that they'll spill something on them before Disney.

Are any of you other Dissers this crazy or am I alone with this bizarre tradition.

The funniest thing is that the kids are so used to it that they don't even question whether or not they can wear their "Disney" clothes!

I am so glad that I am no the only crazy person out there that does this. I have all new clothes for me, DH and DD's; all the way down to sox and underwear. I have packed new jackets, gloves, ear bands (we are coming in Dec.), we have new pj's and robes too!!! I even pack new toiletries, and I am half way done. DH thinks that I have lost my mind. I tell him that I am just really prepared.
