Since buying DVC we don't have to worry about paying for accomodations? I was talking to DH last night about the rising costs of airfare and how our trips will definitely be cut down from 3 a year to most likely 1 to 1 1/2 a year (plus we will have a newborn so we will be tied home a little more). With the airfare definitely beng way more expensive, we at least don't have to worry about the huge financial nut of the resort price :) How awesome is that?:cool1:

Totally PSYCHED! However, I sometimes turn into a DVC cheapskate and pay cash on weekends at another resort if, and only if, I can can get a great AP rate.

I should say though DVC has really allowed us to take more trips to the World each year. Its such a great program, (but please, please, don't take anymore of our perks away!) ;)

But, to your point 3DisneyNUTS, yes, its wonderful checking in and leaving our DVC resort with a 0 balance!

A previous thread addressed the issue of would DVC'rs be banking their points due to the economy and would it cause a problem for the following year, if everyone then went back to traveling. Personally, just as you point out, my accomodations are paid for at Disney. Wether I go to Disney or not, groceries will be purchased either or. I live in Florida so the cost of gas has gone up but it isn't enough to prevent me from going to the Resorts. I might not do as many theme parks or activities but I would still go. The unfortunate ones will be the poeple who have to fly w/ their families, the cost will be higher. The economy will hurt everyone but it is nice to know that my level of accomodations will be a constant no matter what.

I also drive to WDW and that save us a lot of money and let us keep coming more than once a year.
But the little one, that is another story. It is posible to travel with infants/toddlers, but depending on the personality of your baby, it may be quite dificcult.
I'd been traveling very little in the last two years because my now toddler is quite a routine-staying kind of girl, and hardly sleeps when she is out of her crib.
I'm hoping things start getting better as she gets older and we can start making more trips per year (not necessarily WDW, but anywhere we can go driving)

Well the extra money for airfare definitely means less trips for us but we will definitely be getting a 1 br now since we will have more points to use. Now instead of 3 trips every year we will take 1 and then 2 then 1 alternating every year. So it will be nice to have the bigger room :) It is just going to stink not having the Disney fix! It will be a year this August since we have been to DVC. Normally that would be unheard of but being I am pregnant we aren't travelling till after the baby is born:)

Not all airfares are going up. We're still paying $72 for a non-stop flight from Rochester to Orlando (Airtran). Until this changes, we plan to make even more trips than usual. We have four trips planned so far and another one in the works. I've already booked the flights. I figure even if we have to cancel ( :scared1: ), we would not be out that much.

Since I bought the AP last year, and this year will be travelling within 10 months, I "only" have to buy food this year :cool1: :cool1:

I wish!!!! SW went up a lot from ISP :(

Travel is expensive - but having that Disney room paid for is SWEEEET!! I'm thinking that having a bigger room is probably what will happen to us too.

I amso with you on that DVC ROB. That is what "sold" us on DVC. Even if we never make $$ selling it which we won't since we plan on keeping it for life it is prepaying for expensive accomodations at an earlier price. We bought in 2003 and never regret it.

Well - considering we went from paying 4,000 for 7 nights at a moderate resort including the dining plan and park tickets to paying 15 THOUSAND for DVC - plus about 800$ each year in MF - in just three years of DVC ownership - I don't feel like I'm not paying for hotel accommodations.

But I do look forward to the day when I can factor annual use, annual MF, and the overall purchase price and know that I'll be paying LESS than I would have paid through CRO. I think that's about 4 more years away. :goodvibes

(and I really, really love DVC - I just think it's WAY more expensive annually than what I would have paid for MYW packages in the short run)

Add to that the fact we're AP holders and how cheap our "per day" park admission is now and we're sitting pretty too! We're treating the entire extended family to a trip in June and are making out like bandits! :rotfl: There's going to be some cool souvies this year!!!!

That is awesome Denice. I cannot wait till this baby is born and we can bring him on his first Disney trip. I have to plan something !!!! LOL

I totally agree. Travel costs are going up for us, even if not by a huge amount ($20 more per person this year than last year), but it still is awesome!

LOVE IT.

we drive and spend as much on gas, hotel and food as 1.5 people by flying and we're a family of 3 right now. it pays to drive for us.

we purchase our park passes early then pay for the 2 nights in a cash resort early so by the time we get there we only have to pay for food

doesn't seem like we're payig for the rest since we pay it months before we go - it's like free vacation.

It definately makes it easier to go on vacation! I just checked SWA for my trip in Sept and yikes!:scared:

Well, we just bought DVC last august and we received double incentive points. And if you read my ticker you will see that we got three "free" trips this year (accomodations) and we are AP holders so our park tickets are also paid for ahead of time. This is going to be a very, very good year for Disney trips! :thumbsup2

Me, too! I LOVE the No Room Bill part of the trip - more and more every trip!

:goodvibes I think it is great too. Especially this year, when many folks are giving up the idea of taking any type of vacation because of costs going up for everything. We try to go twice a year, but I just banked our remaining points for the rest of our use year because we already know we will not be going again after our June trip this year. The main reason is work, but the airline prices are a close second. We got an okay rate for our June trip, but I don't see that happening again this year. If not for DVC, we would probably be skipping a trip this year. DH was already talking about taking a train next year if the prices continue to rise for airfare. But we do love our OKW, so we will get there somehow!
