We bought a plain mr potato head at Walmart for 5.00 then we stuffed the box at DTD with accessories. DD managed to get entire Tink,Minnie,Mickey tourist,Sorcerer hat, tourist props like ice cr bar, camera, lanyard and pins, mouseears etc plus a basecall hat and several feet, eyes, noses and glasses in the box. It barely closed but they were ok w/it.

Yeah, buy a head somewhere else! I just stuffed my box, it can bulge, etc. Also, if they aren't busy, the sales associates will help you stuff it and THEY ROCK!

Always put the biggest thing on the bottom, and stuff around it with small pieces, like eyes, ears, noses, etc.

LOVE the new stuff they have! (tink, scorcer)

Awesome idea! Santa brought DS ( 4months) Darth Tator.. ok so really its more for Dad but eventually he will want to play with it. I think we just might do a big accessory stuff for old Darth.

Make sure if there is a hollow spot in any larger parts to fill it up with smaller stuff too! We got a ton of stuff in our box when we did this a little over a year ago for our ds.

I think I got over 40 last time, which is not a lot, but the pieces have gotten larger. The Mary Poppins umbrella was a snot to fit in with the shoes and other stuff.
The first thing I do is deside which big pieces I want/need. And the smaller pieces/parts that go with that. Like the parrot that goes with the umbrella, and the shoes, and the pirate stuff. I "dry fit" the big pieces in. Then I gather the smaller ones to pack in around the big pieces.
Next I pack the largest piece with parts that will fit in on the underside and then place it in the box. Then I pack smaller parts around that, and I keep packing big pieces in that have smaller parts packed into them.... Think of it as a Mr. Potatoe head lasagna... you are making layers of parts and pieces. The big pieces are the noodles, and the smaller parts/pieces the cheese and sauce.
I also make sure to get yet another set of MM arms. If I have space in the box I fit any part in that will fit. I do this at least once a trip... and I went several times last year!
BTW, when I was at Disneyland last May they had used the parts from the Tink to make a flying bug. The wings where on unside down. Where the hat would go the placed different eyes. And the used several sets of arms as legs... it was way cuter then I can explain... The CMs did a lot of different things with all the bits and pieces. Wouldn't that make a great contest someplace?
I think the most parts I evedr fited in one box was around 60 pieces. I got several of the WDW suitcases, a few Buzz parts, some hats, 2 pairs of shoes and badges, MM ice cream bar, and arms...eyes... a movie camera.
Don't forget to check out the My Little Pony stuff a box in the back. They have a pink MM ballon back there that is the same as the red one in the front. And some other stuff that looks like it should go with the Mr. P H... I didn't ask if I could stuff that in the PH box... but I did it anyway! Just made sure it was covered by the other stuff.

Layer and work it like a jigsaw puzzle - fill in small spaces with small pieces.

To be honest, though, some of the pieces (<cough> Princess hair <cough>) are pretty darn big. I've resigned myself twice to getting two boxes. Guess it's twice as much empty space to fill up with small parts..... The CMs will often help you squish it all in. If you wind up with one or two pieces you want that just won't fit, ask if you can pay for them separately - we're normally charged $2 per piece if we're buying one or more boxes and have one that just won't go in no matter what we do.

This is what I do and yes, I get some looks and remarks from the store workers but they are always nice about my insanity.

First, get a basket and put all the pieces you want inside. Then grab a Potato Head box and find an empty, unused floor space. Sit down and dump your pieces on the floor and do every possible configuration to fit as many pieces as possible.

Filling Potato Head boxes is quite possibly my favorite part of our Disney trips. Have fun!!!

I think I got over 40 last time, which is not a lot, but the pieces have gotten larger. The Mary Poppins umbrella was a snot to fit in with the shoes and other stuff.

OMGosh! MARY POPPINS POTATO HEAD PARTS!!!! Now I can't wait for our trip to happen. I hope that they still have them in October!!!:yay: :jumping1: :hyper: (Can you tell this news makes me a bit excited?)

I was wondering, do you think if I called Disney they would pack a box for me and ship it if I told them what parts I want? Just an idea. I adore Potato Head! I had one of the original ones as a kid where I had to use a real potato!

I thought the same thing when i read about Mary Poppins parts. I always buy Mr. P H parts for my grandchildren and of course my house. I love Mary Poppins. We will be there in 25 days and I hope they still have them.

The best store is Once Upon a Toy in Downtown Disney. They also have smaller selections of parts at the ToonTown store in MK, the Dinoland store in AK, the huge store in the middle of Epcot and the store at MGM that is on the corner of the main drag where you wait for the rope drop. The Pop Century resort store also has a smallish selection.

I have heard that you can get a box of My Little Pony parts also, what types of things can you get?

Thanks

If you get the disney world suitcase for Mr PH dont forget to open it and stuff inside

We filled up a MLP box on our most recent trip. The box is slightly smaller but there are fewer pieces available.

Some items available:
Princess costumes- cone hats, skirts, capes (Belle, Aurora, Cinderella)
Shoes
Radio
Popcorn cart
Bed
Dresser
Mirror
Minnie costume- minnie costume, skirt
Mickey mouse ears
Mickey head ice cream (like the potato head ones)
Pink mickey head balloon (same as red potato head one)
Sunglasses
Princess Mickey Ears-- has sheer fabric attatched
Shoes
Hair clips w/ribbons- two different styles
Tea cups
Tea pot
Plates
Picnic basket
Sand Bucket
Sandcastles
Fleece Blanket
Rain Hat
Rain coat

I was able to fit all in the box except the popcorn cart and pony. I sandwiched the bed/mirror/dresser together and stuffed the costumes and blanket between them. It's easy to squish it in!

I feel like this was well worth it-- my daughter plays with all of these items. I don't think I'd be able to buy any of these in the store-- not even the non-Disney things.

It's pretty easy to stuff a lot in the box b/c the items are so small. I had to try a few times to maximize the # of items that fit. The little clips, clothes, and sunglasses fill all the voids.

I knew I shouldnt have opened this post!!!
Now they have Mary Poppin pieces and Princessess!

Thanks for the heads up! Potato head that is!

OT, but...
Last May at DTD toy store I saw a Pony display that had a theater and a sewing machine... since I am a fiber artist/costumer/quilter I had to have the sewing machine/theater set up! So I asked them where it was, the CM said it was out of stock. Went back for POTC opening July 4 weekend, checked again, and the CMs had no idea if/when it would come in.
Back for my B'day in Sept, ditto on all the above.
In Oct I talked to yet another CM and the store manager. Told them both I had checked several times, and they did some checking... come to find out it had been discontuined MONTHS before, like in Jan 06! And they would not be getting any more. So I asked if I could buy the display... and they checked. As I was checking out with the box of MPH parts, ( had to get a box each trip...), the CM handed my 2 bags.. the sore GAVE me the Pony parts! Since they could not find a price, and they could not get another in, and it wasn't in inventory... I got it! I didn't write a note to Disney, wasn't sure it was cool with the management that I was given it...
On the other hand, I did buy 6 boxes of MPH parts last year! And 2 of Ponies... and I agree that the best way to get the most in any of the boxes is to get all the parts you want and then sit and play with them till they all fit in! Or most of them!
I think there was a post last fall that had all the current PHparts listed, including the Mary Poppins one, and several other new ones! A CM said they might do Woody from Toy Story, and I did get Malificant... and I think there was a Snow White one coming... Love the Malificant one, the horns for hair is great!

Forgive my ignorance- but what are you guys talking about?? You bring a potato head and then buy Disney themed pieces? What box do you fill and how much?

At several retail locations throughout WDW, they have a Mr. Potato Head parts "bar." They have all different sorts of parts and you can buy a potato head too. A box costs about $20 (prices went up since I've last been there). You can fill it up with as many pieces as you want, as long as the box closes.

They have so many different and unusual parts. Each time I visit, there are different pieces too! So I'm just tempted to buy another box!

Once Upon a Toy in Down Town Disney has the most pieces available.

In order to maximize the amount of parts you can fit in your box, many people recommend buying a regular Mr. Potato Head at Walmart or Target for $6 and then just buying a box of parts at WDW.

If you buy the head there, you should open it up and fill it up before putting it in the box. Plus, the arms (a left and a right!) are a MUST. Most of the pieces need the arms that are sold there.

It kind of becomes an obsession for some people... myself included.

At the Once Upon a Toy store they also have a similar "bar" set up with My Little Pony pieces.

Actually, it seems like that's one of Disney's new favorite ways of selling things. We've noticed quite a few more variations of "fill this container with as much junk as possible for the low low price of $20." There's the skulls and treasure chests in the pirate area of World of Disney-- you can fill it with various pirate booty such as rings, coins, snakes, eyeballs. There's the jewelery box or velvet bag available in the princess area of World of Disney that you fill with jewels, bracelets, and rings.

In the same vein is the make-it-yourself tiara (not so new). And the make-it-yourself wand.

I like the Mr. Potato Head and My Little Pony stuff b/c the parts are pretty unique or at least not easily obtainable in a regular store.
