How many litter boxes does your cat need?

Growing up we usually had two cats in our house and we had three boxes in different areas of the house. Within a year I will obtaining two Balinese cats for breeding and so I would probably use 2 or 3 boxes for them and I will probably use a makeshift box to train their kittens.

We have 3 cats (the 3rd being a new addition) and 1 box. This has never been a problem. If we are going away for a weekend we put out a 2nd box. We have found that they seem to use one for pee and the other for poop.

I have one kitty and one large box. I scoop it as often as I remember. I have a small rubbermaid box with a cover that I line with a walmart/shopping bag and scoop into that and keep sealed. After a couple days I empty that into our outdoor trash cans.

Do you need a plastic liner in your litter box? I don't line mine. Every month I empty it completely and scrub it down really well, and refill it. Your kitty might not like the plastic of the bag under her feet to bury.

I have a cat whos poo I bury. She has never burried her mess, and usually I end up doing it cause it stinks. Mine also wont pee and poo in the same spots. They pee in the bathtub (gross, I knw but there just that way) and poo in there box

One cat, one litter box!

A few years back when we first got our cat we went to some cat seminar/meeting. They said you needed one litter box for every cat you, plus an extra one! WOW. at the time my mom's friend had 16 cats and she only used 6 litter boxed total. According to these people she should've had 17.

That is one spoiled kitty!! You cover her poo???

And yes the poop does stick to the rake and every now then the little trap door would stick a little and when it would finally give it was like a poop and litter explosion!! TWANG! and poopy litter flew everywhere.

Now we use crystals. They absorb the urine odour and really neutralize it. As for the poo...our cat doesn't like to cover either but she is nice enough to poop on a schedule. She is very social and seems to like to poo when we are in the bathroom (usually when DH is in the shower..ha ha on him because then HE has to scoop...I trained her that way ;) ) so we often scoop immediately. The crystals do kinda absorb the moisture and dries up the poo helping with the smell....maybe too much info there.

I was gonna ask too...never will I ever cover my cats poo.

We have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes. When we got our youngest, she wouldn't use it so we got a second and then she wouldn't use it if the cover was on, so we took the cover off. Then she started using the one with the cover on. NOw they both use both of them.

You must have a cat with non-stinky poo or an extremely large place where the litter box smells do not interfere or come close to smelling up the rest of the house anyone is in, in order to make a statement like that.

My cat's poo is a stench. I live in a small apt and if the poo isn't covered within 2 minutes, the whole place reeks of s***. :snooty: The stench advertises that she went. :snooty: I can't see how sitting around smelling stinky cat poo for 2 hours until it dries up enough to stop smelling, is somehow preferable to getting up & covering her poo for her?

Anyway, I'm the OP. This actually an old thread from a year ago, someone else bumped forward. It's similar to a new one another poster asked about in regards to her two kitties. Maybe the newly expanded search brought the thread up and someone clicked on it. :confused3

I ended up keeping to using 2 boxes side by side. My kitty prefers it that way, alternating between the two boxes. :) It's a lot more litter and more liners. So far it works. :cat:
