How many KWH do you consume a month?????

You really can't compare to other people unless you know what type of appliances you have (gas or electric dryer, gas or electric stove, septic pump or city water, etc...) There are lots of variables.

Having said that, we are electric EVERYTHING. We also have water and septic pumps, but our electric heat/AC is geothermal, so its more efficient. We are only 3 people, but 2 of us are home most of the time. Our average KWH is about 1250 - slightly higher in the winter due to lights, lowest in spring & fall when the heat and ac are off.

PA is a choose your own electric state, so we are locked into a 7.8/kWh for 6 months with our current provider.

OP here. Haven't figured out the reason behind the spike yet. I understand a small spike due to time of year...but not this much. All appliances are fairly new (and the same), so it's not them. It seems to be on track for this time last year. I'll keep looking. I like knowing what people pay per KWH. Helps me know if we're in the ball park with everyone else. Thanks for that information. We have laptops/printers, etc. that run all the time, except overnights. We only turned on the furnace the past couple days, so I know it wasn't that. This bill is thru 11/26.

I'll keep investigating.

See if you billing cycle changed. Our billing cycle changed this month from 28 days to 43 so that could be the reason.

Of course it still doesn't explain why our bill is $165 more than last month! We don't use much electricity this time of the year and we didn't have power for 8 days after the hurricane!!!! They estimated my bill as if it was the middle of the summer with the pool and air on! Even still if you look at the graph November is alot higher than July and August! Very frustrating! Sorry just needed to vent : )

0.10503 per KWH plus 15.59 for a customer and metering charge. 844 KWH used last month in the cold north and last year we used 736 KWH

Yup JCP&L! I see where you live, I live very close to you (next town)! We were saying the same thing that they needed the cash to pay all the out of state workers!

Only 255KWh last month. 29 days. That's an actual read, not an estimate.

That's for a 2200 sq foot house, but only 2 people. Gas heat, water heater and stove. Electric everything else.

No one is home during the day (well, just the cat - but she hasn't mastered turning on any lights yet )

Looks like we'll run about 325-350KWh this month, based on usage to date (we have "smart" meters, so I can monitor our usage online each day). Our usage always spikes a bit this time of year because of all the Christmas lights I put up in the house.

Not sure what our KWh is, think it is around $0.09. Used 101KWh in September (haven't gotten a November bill yet). All lights that can be have been switched to CFL (and those are slowly being changed to LED), if it doesn't need to be plugged in, it is not. 1250 sq. foot condo.

This month's bill covers a week we were away and it is lower than the previous month's bill.

For 29days we used 513 KWH. It doesn't list price per KWH but if I divide it out it is .116335/KWH plus taxes.

Wow! I just happened to look at our bill from 10/4-11/7 and we used 1740! We are a family of 5 but it shows last year we used only 774. I have no idea why our bill was so much higher than last year. Our bill was $219. We do have a big old chest freezer from the 80s but it still works good so we haven't replaced it. Everything else is quite a bit newer. Part of the bill got charged at .0723 and part at .04163. Going to go thru the house and make sure everything is turned off when we leave and make sure the boys do the same.

We are on a budget plan and I can already tell we are going to be way behind unless we pay more than we budgeted for.

for the 11/28 bill - we used 762KWH 31 days in billing cycle.
energy charge is 0.110920 + fees = $103.52

this is average - the lowest we go is in the 5xx range (spring/fall)
i start freaking out when we go over 1000KWh per month in January & February

Just received the paper they send telling us our usage compared to others around and last year. We are listed as quite high. October and November months was combined 2079 KWH, so approximately 1040 or so for a month.

The report stated we are using 1% more this year than last year overall. We added running a pool pump and salt water system through the summer, plus the AC unit was on it's last legs until we bought a new one. That's about all we've been doing different.

Ha! I do - it's 900 sq feet, plus the finished basement which is another 350 sq feet or so. So about 1200...which seems pretty dang big to me (me, DH, and 2 massively sized boys). It's the house I grew up in and it fits just perfect I think that it's all in how things are laid out. Our last house was bigger, but laid out so inconveniently. I don't think I could/would go any bigger...seems like a waste of space/energy to me. But we will see what the future holds

our electric company has installed turtle meters. it electronically figures out our usage & sends it in. they figure 6 different kinds of usage, depending on the time of day or day of the week.
very confusing , as you can't just look at the meter & see what you are using.
in august we used over 10,000 KWH of various kinds, (over $500)
last month it was under 8,000.


BUT that was with the turtle meter. I just checked my bill from 2 years ago in august (OLD style meter) & it said I used 4500 KWH & charged about the same, so I can't really figure correctly anymore....(need a turtle reader dummies guide)

but at least we have a marvelous electric crew. in 25 years the longest we were ever out of elec was 10 hours. it is OCASSIONALLY out maybe, a couple hours when other communities are out for days (within an hours drive of here).

Let's see, the house we just moved from was 1550 sq ft. Three of us living there, with an occasional weekend visit from DD#2.
We have a Co-Op electric company.

My bill 11/7 was $126.11.
KWH used 1126 @.01700 =19.14
Energy = 86.30
Customer Charge = 14.00
Subdivision lighting = 1.30
plus various taxes

My bill for 12/4 (we moved on the 30th) was for 90.11.
Energy = 60.14
Customer Charge 11.67

customer charge recovers some of the fixed costs that come from serving a member--cost of meter, wire, other equipment, billing expenses.

One of the "taxes" is a non-taxable fuel amount. the state allows the company to emplement a tax on the purchase of electricity. But, the cost of fuel to the utility is excluded from the amount taxed--which is why it is a non-taxable amount.

It also shows a Power cost Adjustment--shows increases/decresases in the cost of power purchased wholesale by the Co-op. It depends on your kwh.

Energy rate (base rate) is 6.0 cents per kwh. When the cost of power is greater than the amount included in the base rate, the PCA is a charge. If the cost is less, it is a credit. It's been a charge since 2000.

My electric bill runs about $120 in the fall and spring, and $150-180 in the winter/summer (a/c or heat, Christmas lights or pool)
