How Many From Michigan??

Hi igitur  Good to "see" you around. Hope you and your family are doing well.

Let's hear it for Spring Lake! Wow, 2 of us, huh? :cheer2:

We're going to WDW in 3 weeks and 2 days. Probably the last time we do that during the school year--DS starts high school this year (he goes to Grand Haven-yeah, I know I'm a traitor) and DD1 is going into 5th grade. DD2 is 3 and can go whenever, but we will probably relegate vacations to summer now.

Still looking forward to that Sept trip though! :sunny: :goodvibes

Wow! Another Spring Laker! Your close enough that I can stow away in your suitcase! I'm a transplant, so I won't call you a traitor. But you ds has to go all the way over the bridge to get to school. Wow. ;)

:rotfl: Yeah, you know I've only been stopped by the bridge twice this year! Major record. I do have a good excuse for keeping the kids in GH schools-they both started out there when we moved to SL 4 years ago-it was easier to keep them in GH and since I work in GH, it's closer for me to get to them if need be.

You're welcome to stow away in an extra suitcase next month! We usually bring an extra one anyway for souvenirs! :teeth:

But how would I get home? Guess I'd just have to stay!

Boy, that would be a shame! :cool1:

I cannot believe how many Michiganders are on the Dis-I wonder if it has to do with the fact that the weather is too hard to deal with year-round and we need the other extreme once in a while. Hmmmmmmm. :sunny:

Except for teh actual snow birds here, I think we're all just snow birds in training. I'll say that it's the need for teh VItamin D from teh sunshine in teh winter! That, or we're all just a bunch of over-grown kids in MI!

We're from Traverse City! We'll be in WDW over Thanskgiving!

Is there no one out there from the Thumb?! Come on now, all these city folks putting us to shame. I can lay claim to Harbor Beach, Yale, Sandusky, and Peck. But I must confess I live in the village of Reese, outside of Saginaw, Gateway to the Thumb! :cool1:

My Best Friend and I and four DC's will be going Oct 29th to Nov. 5.

My DH is from your neck of the woods...I mean...farm country!

Berly1657, yup, Zeeland is close enough! (I live in Holland, work in Zeeland. :) )

Fantasia, this year school starts for us after Labor Day. My DS is just starting Kindergarten! He's so excited!!!

That's cool! I wish our school here starts after Labor Day. This way I could have taken advantage of the FREE DINING!!

I think we are going to have an early winter! It seems kind of chilli for me in the morning and at night! I am not prepared for winter... let me rephrase that... I am never prepared for winter!

Hey, I know this is off topic...but can anyone tell me what state park campgrounds are best in MI...we are considering a fall camping trip (tent) and we've got a state park sticker. We did the UP earlier this summer, so I'm mostly interested in the LP. We enjoy checking out nearby towns, historical sites, etc. and I appreciate clean, modern facilities...Any favorites? TIA! :flower:

I agree with Hoffmaster and Ludington. We were just at Hoffmaster last weekend, it's one of our favorites and camp there 3-4 times a season. Facilities are very nice. They have a harvest fest in Oct. I think that might be cool to check out.
Ludington is excellent also, difficult to get in until Oct. though, I tried booking for Sept. they have nice bike trails.
Vanburen S.P. was nice too, I didn't check out the bathroom facilities since we have a camper with a toilet and shower. My DH used them but I wouldn't take his opinion on the condition.
Gun Lake is another nice S.P. with lots to do in the area. It's inland so in the fall it could be a little less breezy than being on the big lake.

I love most of our state parks and we ususally camp in those rather than private parks. My absolute favorite is Tahquamenon S.P. but that is over the bridge.

I can't believe my little one is going to school next week!!! I'm sure he's going to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.... :cloud9: but it's KILLING me!!!

I'm taking him to Frankenmuth this weekend to spend at the pools.... just celebrate his last weekend before becoming a little man.... :cheer2:

Is it just me or do/did you all have the same kind of reaction??? :wave2:

Believe me... It was like that with me last year.. My daugther last year started her Kinder. It was so hard for me to see her go on the first day. I got teary a little bit. And I missed my children so much on their first day of school. I felt so lonely at home.. It was too quiet.

But this year... It was all good. I dreaded the back to school. I was nervous and anxious, especially the night before. And again when I was driving them to school. But the kids seems like they were ready. My son looked like he was hesitant to go in his new room, but he fine after that. So hope everything goes well all through out the school year.

Hey... MIchiganders! Has anyone been to Grand Hotel, Mackinaw Island? If you have, how was it? And I am curious... can you compare GH to any WDW resort? I mean which one seems to look like the GH? Do you think the BWI looks like that? Thanks! I was thinking that maybe I will stay at the Disney resort that resembles the GH. Thanks!

I don't really know that any WDW hotels look like GH. I guess I would most compare it to Grand Floridian. BWI is too relaxed IMO. I don't know that anythign really compares to that front porch feeling, but I would think the GF ambiance would be the closest.

I don't think it's just you. It's one of the harder days in a mother's life sending that baby off to their first day of school. I wept when my first born went, my middle one was so excited to go that it was not as hard. But this last one, OMG...is killing me. I work at home so those morning hours from 7:30 to 11:30 will be so quite. I plan to get a lot of things accomplished but will miss our time together.

Volunteer at your son's school. The teachers need the extra hands and your son will love showing you off to his new friends!!

Yes...Sandusky MI (not Ohio)

The only one I'm close to is poohpooh2u in Reese although I shop lakeside most of the time and my daughter loves Plato's Closet on JohnR and 14. If you have a preteen or teen, it's the store for you.

We are going in January this time. Staying at WL on the weekend OKW the rest of the time. We had a Thanksgiving trip planned, but I just backed it up and rescheduled our airfare/villa because we just survived a 1300 sf, 6 month kitchen/dinningroom/livingroom remodel that almost sucked every once of sanity from me. I'm trully in need of a vacation and some pixie dust just don't think I can handle it right before Christmas.

I love this Michigan thread.
We need to bookmark it and check back offen and keep it going.
When someone gets back from their trip, check in and give us WDWdetails....WDWdetails.....WDWdetails.....it's what we live for!!!!!!

-Kim

PS my lic. plate says OFF2WDW, although it never gets farther than metro airport ;)

I had a roommate in college from near sandusky. Welcome to our fun thread!

Thanks for responding. GF and BWI was the two resorts I was thinking of. I thought that maybe BWI front is somewhat similar to GH. I think I really need to try GH. It is such a beautiful resort... I mean from the outside and the grounds. I watched the movie "Somewhere In Time," and from the look of it... it is beautiful!! Maybe next summer, I will stay there, maybe for 2 nights just to see how it feel to stay on the island. Has anyone stayed there before? I'd like to hear your experience on that resort. Thanks!!

sanilacjack, when in Jan are you going? We will be there Jan 4th to the 11th this year, not sure where yet since we are holding out for some good AP rates. (hoping for PORS or AKL) if we can't get them we will do what ever DVC resort is avilable. Trying to save points since we are in a constant state of borrowing. ;) We like going before Christmas, but DH teachs college and they get out late this year. They don't start back until the 14th so we should be good though. This will be our 3rd trip on these AP before they expire (March 2005 and May 05 also)

We were there Jan 1st to the 7th 2004 and the weather was great. (we were at VWL) I hope we get as lucky this year.

We are Jan. 20 - 29.
I had thought about putting together a fireworks cruise but the weather in the evenings that time of year can sometimes be iffy. Of course, nothing compared to MI.
