I worked in Fantasyland Foods at DL in the late '80's - started while in HS, ended in while in college. I always wanted to transfer into attractions, but it just didn't happen. There were a few times I got pulled for crowd control for parades and Fantasmic - or to work in locations in other lands - but mostly I made burgers or scooped ice cream. Oh - and yeah, those polyester costumes were just terrific in the heat of summer.
I was in Outdoor Vending (selling popcorn, ice cream, and balloons throughout the park) at DL from 82-85. I went permanent after my 1st summer and had a blast!
Later, I transferred to the Walt Disney Travel Company, and was there from 85-87.
Former CM here. Started in Future World Ops in 1987 (Imag, Seas, MoHo), worked Seas VIP then opened the Studio in Ops (Shuttles & LMAD) then to Mickey Mouse Club for a couple seasons. Also cross-u'd to teach the Innovations in Action seminar for most of that time. Left in 1993 and have missed it every day since!
Fun Thread. DW and I know a retired couple that work seasonally at WDW (wherever they are needed) and they have a blast. We talk about working this into our retirement plans
DS is a manager at WDW and an owner, along with his wife who works in Finance at WDW. They both did the CP, and DS did the Professional Management Internship (or whatever it's now called).
Former Cast Member 1972-1976. Worked at Plaza Restaurant, Crystal Palace and Liberty Tree Tavern. Still have my Bicentinnel name tag from 1976. Been a nurse for 30 years but plan to back to WDW in retirement.
TDS for over 10 years (thru the TCP years so retained the time ).
will prob consider moving to fla someday to work at WDW, but won't unless our family is near (my parents, siblings, & our children). while we love long island, the winters & taxes are both brutal
DDs are both CMs (started at CPs, then moved to F/T). Oldest DD and I are on the contract together. I'm hoping to be a CM in January (I'm a F/T student and applying for the CP or a PI)
Interesting to see all the folks who were cast members once upon a time. I, too, would love to become a snowbird and work seasonally at WDW when we retire. Since DS is only 8 it will be awhile before that happens!
DS is a former CM at DL. In the summer of 2005, he was an entertainment intern-great summer to do it since that was the summer of the 50th anniversary and he got to work the big celebration.
Two semesters on the college program here:
Spring 99: Merchandise Hostess at DAK (Disney Outfitters)
Spring 01: Advanced Internship in International Travel Industry Marketing (Creative Development)
Currently, I'm hoping to make a move to FL within the next year to work for WDP&R.
I worked at MK for three years in college. Started at Main Street North Foods, selling popcorn and ice cream at the carts around the park, and in the ice cream parlor and bakery. I got a bad shopper review once that I didn't smile enough, so I transferred to the haunted mansion and worked there for another year. Suited my personality very well.
