I have heard that there are approx 40 thousand DVC members, is this true? does anyone know how many members there are? Can you tell what number you are by the member card, like do the last 4 or 5 numbers keep track of how many DVC members there are?

They were up to 52,000 by the beginning of this year; thus likely 4,000 or more since then if the reports on brisk sales of VWL are correct. The actual number of people is much higher as the figures on total number of members count joint owners (like husband and wife) as one.

Also, your membership number does not provide any way to determine what number member you are. I happen to have two membership numbers and the one for the later purchase is actually a lower number than the one for the earlier purchase (both at BWV).

hi: at the dvc meeting in the beginning of may at bwv, the cm said they had just moved into the 55,000 range.

This was a trivia question at our weekly DVC meeting in March. The guide said 71,000.

Assuming you didn't purchase resale, would the original contract number tell you what number you were? Did they start with contract number 1? I know that add-ons were using the same contract number with .001 etc added to the end. For instance, we have an original contract, and have added on 3 times at the same resort, so our numbers are XXXX, XXXX.001, XXXX.002 and XXXX.003. I've called member accounting with some questions, and they asked for my contract number instead of my member number.

That 71,000 the CM said in March cannot possibly be right. Disney's disclosure documents were showing about 52,000 as the end of last year and it could not possibly have added 19,000 in three months (there are literally not that many memberships that could have been sold because it would be more than selling out all three resorts that are still available--HH, VB, and VWL). The 55,000 in May is probably fairly accurate and likely another 1,000 since then.

Just thought I'd mention the latest official count (from the release on VEP). They say 60,000 member families from over 60 countries. Wow!

One caveat. If you have an add-on purchase, they give you an extension on your contract, eg -.01

However, if you have totally separate contracts, with different membership numbers, do you still count as one member, or do you count as two? If they link the contracts together using SSAN, then you probably count as a single member.

I know some members have multiple membership numbers based on different purchases (not add-on's per se). Do they count multiple times?

Anybody know for sure?

I'm not sure how they do the count but since they refer to "member families" I'm guessing they mean by names. Despite doing add-ons I only receive 1 VM so they could base it on the mailing list they use.
