How Many DVC Members Are There?

Does anyone know how many members there are in the Disney Vacation Club?

My wife wanted to know and I couldn't tell her.

Do you know if 60,000 means 60,000 individual families or 60,000 contracts sold?

I got a call from a DVC guide on Tuesday, (we inquired on our Dec visit) and he said "we have over 70,000 members".....I thought he meant that was the number of contracts, but not for sure...
