How many DVC folks "clean the jacuzzi tub" before using?

Most folks recommend filling the tub with hot water and pouring in some dishwasher powder, run for a few minutes..drain.

After I used the dishwasher soap and drained, I would refill the tub and run it again just to make sure the soap was out of the system(aka the rinse cycle).

edk35, aren't you going in a few weeks? Have a great time!

this is also what I do...... Susan

Yea, why wouldn't mousekeeping clean it out??? Isn't that what they get paid for?:confused3

I'm sure they wipe it with disinfectant, I doubt they run hot water through it. Truthfully, I seldom run them with dishwasher powder, but the last the jacuzzi just looked like it needed it. I think it was a light coating of residue from the disinfectectant, but it "looked" dirty.

A bit too wasteful for my tastes - and I'm not sure how effective the dishwashing power would be.

Personally, I throw in some bleach the first time I use the tub. It kills off anything living in the tubes and doesn't waste filling/draining the tub.

I would check with the manufacturer. Would not want to damage unit for next member!!

Nah, we're not that clean when we hop into the tub anyway. And we're going to use some soap sometime during the soak. I seldom drink the water from the jacuzzi anymore.

Anyway, it's got to be cleaner than SAB or the hot tub at the pool.

My first time I didn't clean it and all kinds of junk came out when I turned the jets on  . Now I always run a small amount of bleach through.

:thumbsup2 I worry abou that BLACK JUNK TOO.....that is what concerns me the most.....seeing a bunch of black stuff fly out of those jets when I or one of the kids are in that nice big tub. YUCK.

Yes we arrive HOME FOR OUR FIRST TIME ON AUGUST 15TH....CAN'T WAIT.

If you are concerned, chlorinate the water in the tub. It disinfects and is safer than bleach

The people before us must have taken an oatmeal bath because it was nasty.
I even used dishwasher soap and just kept getting more and more oatmeal out of the jets. I created a huge job for myself because I didn't want to leave it that way or not to mention, let the kids get in the tub. I think I used a whole roll of paper towels and literally had to scoop out the oatmeal. YUK!

Yep... that's where we come from too. Though... something tells me we are playing with fire. Too much trust... on our part. We need to be more diligent.

This is our first time staying in a one bedroom at Hilton Head. Do they have jacuzzi in the bathroom there? If so should I buy a small bottle of bleach and how much should I use to clean out the jets? Thanks:)

We have a jacuzzi tub at home and I clean it on a regular basis. We use a product that you can pick up at Lowe's or Home Depot that is specifically for cleaning the pipes. There are four sets of cleaning packets in it and it runs around $20.

I have to say that even at home I have debris come out of my pipes and I am vigiliant about keeping the tub clean. I think it is just a matter of residue from soaps, cleaners, and minerals in the water.

Personally, if I were going to just take a bath I say go for it, but if I am going to run the jacuzzi I am going to clean it out. I really don't like wasting all those gallons of water, but I wouldn't want anything floating in the water either as I am trying to soak and relax.:scared:

That wasn't oatmeal. I had a touch of the stomach virus. Sorry.

Fill with hot, hot water & bleach. Run for 10 - 15 minutes. Drain, fill again with hot water & run again to rinse.

The bleach is an item on our wegoshop order everytime!
