How many Disney cards have you bought at Target

Does anyone know if you can use the gift cards to say for instance pay for the dining plan on a reservation or do they need a credit card only? I mean if they are $50 gift cards I would have to use like 17 of them over the phone, would they be ok with that???

For those of you with the debit card do you know if there are any daily limits. I know my regular card from the bank has a daily limit I can use the debit for but I am thinking since Target handles transactions as an automatic withdrawel that there would not be a limit?

Does the red card have to be debit? Can you set it up as a charge?

I would love to know this too. I'm still working on convincing my DH to take a June trip, but I went today and found the cards at my Target just in case. They only had $50 ones, and about $1000 worth. I would love to get them (plus hit another store to get another $700) to pay for the trip, all on one day when I can use my additional 5% pharmacy rewards. Wondering if I can debit $1700 in one day?

So, can I buy one giftcard for $2000 and get the 5%? i am confused as to why you would buy more than one?

I think I understand, they are in denominations... instead of Walgreens where it is put as much as you like on one card... Can someone confirm?

If you have a package online that you are making payments for, you can use the gift cards. Right now the web page is throwing up an error when you try to use a gift card online, but you can call and give them to them. The woman who took my 15 gift cards yesterday said her record is 100 over the phone from one guy. They don't mind.

I don't know if it's Target or my bank, but when I tried to get $1000 at once it was kicked back, even though I have enough funds in the account. I've only been getting $500 at a time because of this.

See my response above. *I* couldn't, but the cashier couldn't tell me if it was Target or my bank stopping me.

Yes, Target only sells them in $25 and $50 demoninations, so you have to buy a pile of cards. I've bought $2500 worth in the last week, $500 at a time.

Does anyone know the answer to this? I looked at getting a Target RedCard (charge version) when I first read about the 5% on this board a month or so ago, but when I asked at Customer Service they said the RedCard (I assumed any version) doesn't include the 5% of on gift cards. Not to say Customer Service is always (or rarely) right - maybe I got bum advice. I just don't want to get a Charge Card and not get the same benefit (5% off disney GCs). I can get the Debit Card, but prefer the charge card.

By gift cards it's referring to Target branded gift cards. WDW cards are not Target GCs they are entertainment cards and ring up as such.

All GCs that hang in the music section that are for other stores are labelled as entertainment cards in Targets system and therefore are eligible for the 5% discount.

Thanks. This is what I was guessing when I posted, but my real question is do you get the same discount if you have the RedCard charge card? Everyone here seemed to be talking about the RedCard Debit Card. I already got bad info from Customer Service once, so I was just wondering if someone could confirm before I spend the time to go get a charge card. thanks again.

I do not have the debit card, just the charge card, and I can confirm that you do get the 5% discount:goodvibes.

I have the debit card, and I converted some unused points and was able to purchase Target gift cards. I would like to purchase about$1000 worth of Disney cards using the gift cards and debit cards. How do I do that? I also have the additional 5% of coupon but they ring up the gift cards first so I wouldn't get the percent off the whole purchase. Just what I end up applying to my debit card. Is that how it works?

I only have a Target Visa redcard, not a debit card. All redcards get 5% off. All redcards get 5% off everything at Target (not including GCs).

I use them to pay for my DVC dues:thumbsup2.

I put $40 per paycheck into an online bank account. Then, when our maintenance fees are due in January, I use my Target card to buy the Disney gift cards (I bought 17 of them this year) and then pay it off with the money from our bank account.

I'm so glad I finally learned about this. Our MF's jumped up 8% this year and I had only planned for a 5% increase. By purchasing the gift cards at Target, I was able to cover my "shortage".

Darn. I wish I would have known about this a couple weeks ago.
Great idea. Wish I had done it. Too late for this year.
My MF jumped almost 9%. BLT. I think they will do a big jump again next year, too.

You apply for a Target Debit card at Target - I think mine took about a week to show up, but they gave me a temporary card to use until then. You get 5% off everything you buy at Target, and it is direct debited out of your checking account (I assume this is their way of getting around paying the fees to Mastercard/Visa.)

You assume correctly, as Target is the only U.S. department/discount store to own their own bank to process transactions on their in-house credit card (Walmart, Sears, JCP, and Macy's all contract their cards to GE Money or Citi, so they are unable to give such discounts).

You have to specify to the Target team member which card you want (debit or credit) -- the benefits for both are identical, which for many, makes the debit card a no-brainer.

If you apply for a debit card, Target will ask to scan a blank check from your checking account -- if you apply for a credit card, you will go through the typcial application/credit check process.

I am a guest service employee at Target and you do get 5% on ANY gift card purchase except for actual target gift cards and Visa/AE gift cards. When you purchase a large amount of gift cards it is your bank that kicks back the purchase not Target. I paid for my whole Disney vacation with these gift cards, I got my 10% employee discount, 5% red card discount and 5% pharmacy rewards! 50.00 ones are on a back endcap in entertainment and 25.00 are typically right near the 50.00 ones or at the front checklanes. The systems are prompted to order more once they are down to 1 gift card left and these typically take longer to come in than regular items. I would not count on Target having these forever, they usually change the gift cards they carry about once a year and I know they came out in 2010 right after Christmas, although I guess it just depends on how much they sell in a particular area. I bought 5 one time and they were sold out for over a month then I bought 26 just to finish paying my vacation off I am still waiting for them to come back in before our vacation in 2 weeks! Good luck, happy savings and any questions just ask!

Sounds like a good deal. Except, I'm not sure I can do it.

I'm a federal employee. My health insurance is through the Federal Employee Insurance plan. Federally funded medical programs are not eligible for additional perks, and the Federal Employee Insurance plan is partially funded by the government. I haven't been able to earn rebates and other goodies on my prescriptions.

I have five prescriptions a month, so this adds up.

What insurance plan do you have? DH is a federal employee also (we have FEP Blue Cross Blue Shield) and I have not had an issue getting the gift cards for transferred prescriptions from different pharmacies.

Has anyone ever used Dis gift cards when they rent points & want to pay for dining plan? I want to have the person I rented from use the gift cards to pay for my dining plan. The only problem is it will be $1000 worth of gift cards.
I used $1600 of GCs last year to pay for my DDP. The CM didn't have a problem at all.

Does the red card have to be debit? Can you set it up as a charge?

I have the charge card. I don't want anything attached to my checking account.

I also have FEP BCBS. I get the 2% back at CVS.

You are correct, if you are paying for insurance from BCBS, and other providers, you should be able to get the "perks" that go with having your prescription filled at a pharmacy of your choosing.

I think Target (and others) are referring to prescription programs that are known by the public to be federally-funded, such as Medicare/Medicaid (for seniors/low income families), and Tricare (U.S. Military).

OTOH, if you happen to live in NY/NJ, you won't be able to take advantage of any of these offers -- in other words, fuhgettaboutit...
