How many days for Universal?

We're heading to Florida next week, and are planning on doing both Disney and Universal. The ticket prices add up of course, but the more days you get, the less per day. We've figured out our Disney needs based on previous trips, but this will be our first Universal trip.

To keep the price down, we thought of doing a 2 day base ticket (no park hopping), but we aren't sure if we'll get through everything, or regret not getting a 3rd day. Our kids are 7 and 9, and will be too short for some of the mainliner rides (not sure how many of the roller coasters they'll actually be interested in).

Any advice?

I'm going to move this to the main board so you will get more responses.

It depends on what you mean exactly by "everything", but based on the rest of your post, and the time of year you're going, I think two days is enough. A third day couldn't hurt anything (except your wallet) but is probably unnecessary.

I don't think you'll have a problem in doing everything you want to do in two days considering you probably won't do the big coasters. You should no problem hitting the Studios for the day and in IOA the problem would be HP. Depending on the crowds, it could be very busy in that section. Otherwise you should be good to go.

I went with my family in August, as a group of 5. I was the youngest. I was 12. We spent 2 days at IOA and 2 half days at US. US probably will only take a day. Now seeing that you have 2 younger kids you might be able to get through IOA in a day. But if you plan on visiting WWOHP, than i suggest you spend another day at IOA... or you could just get a 3-Day park hopper.

We did 2 full days and 2 partial days, just 2 adults and one 6 year old, didn't do any BIG coasters, and did soooo much, but wanted to stay longer! Sure you can "do" a whole bunch, but you might want to do more of it. :)

We (3 adults) are going to Universal for the first time and was told we would be able to see everything we wanted to see in one day. Now by reading this thread I'm wondering if one day will be enough. We won't be doing the kiddy rides and we'll be going in April on a Monday the 11th. Do you know if the park is usually crowded on that day?

Can't wait to go!

1 day per park (2 days total) will work, particularly if you are lucky enough to be there when crowds are light. We can spend an entire week there easy, of course we do things over and over again, but 2 days is not a bad time to dedicate to it.

I would suggest two days since the addition of Harry Potter. You can wait well over 90 minutes almost anytime of the day for Forbidden Journey. Plus you definitely want to see the show in Olivanders.

I previously have been able to do it in one day if you start in the morning and pick a late night close. Also I didn't do every show and every ride that day and it was before they had Harry Potter.

So a definite 2 day event.

Have a great time!

Something to keep in mind too is that the cost difference between a 2-day and 3day isn't too bad. If you buy a 2 day non-hopper and find you missed stuff you wanted to do, you can always go to guest relations and pay the difference to upgrade the tickets to give yourself an extra day.
