How many days does your school get off in October?

I have seen posts about week long vacations in October. In our school here in NJ, they only holiday is Columbus Day and we don't even get that off every year.

We typically have one.
We never get Columbus Day off. This year we had a day off on the 15th for teachers to have a conference about upcoming state testing.
We won't have another day off until Thanksgiving.

In Wisconsin we have off for Columbus day and usually the last thurs. and fri. in Oct. I believe these are a teacher in service program? Many families go away at this time. So kids will not miss so much school. I know several families that are at WDW right now. I'm so jealous. lol.:)

This is our second year of having a "modified" calendar, not year round, still 180 days of instruction.

We have the weeks of October 4 and 11 off, so the answer to your question is 10!

We are also in Wisconsin but we only get the last Thursday/Friday of the month for state teachers convention.

WE DON'T GET ANY DAYS OFF IN OCTOBER!!!!! Not even Columbus Day.

There is, however, 2 half days usually somewhere in the middle of the month for Parent-Teacher Conferences.

We had Columbus Day off, and the Friday before for teacher conferences. We went to Disney, letting our kids miss one day to make a little longer trip. Next year my oldest will be in High School and we will not even want to miss one day. I think the only people who have lots of time off are those who have a shorter summer and scattered breaks through the year. I would LOVE to live in one of those places, but I think they are rare. Lots of folks take kids out of school anyway, so you will always see kids there. We just have to go when it is crowded and/or hot!

I would love it if we had a fall break...what a great time for WDW! Alas, we only get Columbus Day. A few north Texas districts get a week off, or at least a 4 day weekend, but we don't. I was on our school's calendar committee and my goal was to get more time off in Ocotber, but I failed. In Texas, the answer to many questions seems to be "football"...can't have a bunch of time off during football season!

My child in public school got 10/15 for a teacher planning day.

My child in a private school got 1/2 day on 10/20, and 1021-10/22 off for teacher planning. They got 2 1/2 days off so the teachers could go to a conference in Orlando. So guess what? We went to Orlando also to see Mickey!

We get Columbus day off and if the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur is very late, it is usually in September, our town schools will also be closed.

We get Columbus day and 2005 Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah are in October so we'll have off those days too. I imagine alot of NY schools, especially Long Island, have off those days too. That's when we're planning our 2005 trip to WDW so DS won't miss too much school.

This year we didn't get any days off. My DD's first day off of school will be Nov 22 for teachers in-service.

I'm with ttichenor on this one--love those two weeks in October!!! It's nice to know our county is doing something right!

NYC public schools observe the same holidays.

Can you post the dates for Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah? I'm sure the department of education won't release the 2005-2006 calendar until April or May. Maybe we'll get to do a quick trip for MVMCP. :hyper: :earseek:

Here in the Denver south suburbs, our schools(elem, middle and high) get off the last week in October every year for fall break. It is a wonderful time to go to Disney.
And we just got back today!!

This year our school district's Fall Break (grade school level) was 3 days: Wed-27 to Fri-29 and school let out early on Tue-26.

We took advantage of the break and were in WDW Fri-22 and got home today Sat-30.

Over here in the UK, the schools are shut for half term usually the last week of October. I imagine that there will be quite a few of us over there around that time as prices are cheaper, crowds are low and the weather isn't too bad (I hope...as that's when we are going next year).

This year, we didn't get any days off in October- schools in the south don't traditionally get off for Colunbus Day.

We had a teacher workday in Sept, and we have off tomorrow for Election Day, and another day off next week for a teacher workday. That's it as far as days off until Thanksgiving.

4 days for the kids this year.........with a weekend in between, so six total. Teachers only got 2 plus the weekend.

They are having voting for the two proposed calendars for next year. I'll post the results of that when we get a final copy.
