Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to plan a trip in June , but I don't know how many days we should stay at Hilton Head. We thought about driving from PA, stop at HHI for two nights, then drive to SSR for five nights. But I'm worried two nights might not be enough to enjoy the resort. I'm also not sure about the activites there, for kids ages 2 and 6. Please help:idea:

Also, from PA....if you are driving straight through, you will be exhausted. Depending on traffic (we are in the Allentown Area), it has taken us a minimum of 12 hours and a maximum of 17!!! We have since discovered going through Lancaster and around (30??) is the shorter way.

2 days at the resort will give you a "feel" for it. I would just make sure it is 2 full days to get the best.

Have a great time....my kids prefer HHI over WDW. It is quite amazing!

We drive from Boston to WDW and HHI(either together in one trip or separately). We have found that we enjoy staying at HHI after our wdw trip(we usually stay at our home resort OKW), because the resort is so relaxing and we wind down from the hectic park touring. 2-3 nights is a nice respite and then we usually stop somewhere around DC or Delaware for one more night on the way home. We enjoy HHI anytime of year...sitting on the porch with morning coffee watching the dolphins at the mouth of shelter cove is just about perfect! Love to shop, walk the beach, and dine out and cook in our villa. Can't say enough about my second home resort.

I agree! My kids are 7 and about to be 9 and we have been going since my youngest was 6 months-they both like it more than WDW and that's saying a lot because they LOVE WDW!
Glad to read you are doing 3 days..I would also recommend as a PP suggesed doing it on your way back instead of the way down-it's a great way to relax and wind down.

You could easily spend a week at Hilton Head and it wouldn't be too much! I'd say three days would be the minimum to really get a feel for the resort and enjoy what it has to offer.

Have a great trip!

I am a new HHI groupie after our first trip in May. The 5 year old we had along absolutely loved it. 3 days will give you a great taste and I'll bet you will be back. I am so looking forward to returning.

Another vote for visiting HH on the way home from WDW instead of on the way down. It is just the PERFECT place to relax after busy days at Disney. 3-4 days is enough, but we added on, so now we do a full week. We love it!

Enjoy

We also love HH(we are bias as we are "home" there) and enjoy our relaxing time there! our daughter has been going since 2yrs old and has done many activities. The best one was painting the fish and then applying it to a shirt. Another good one was Mickey tye-die shirts. Wish i would have made one for me:) If you stay at HH on the way back it would be a great ending to a great vacation. Good Luck

Another vote for staying at HHI after Disney. We drove down in July from Boston - stayed in DC for a tour of the White House - met my sister and her family in VA and headed down to OKW (2 - 2 BR's) for a week, and then on to HHI (2 - 2 BR's) for a week.

Stay 3 nights if you can - we just went for a 2 night/3 day trip to HH and I literally cried on the morning we had to leave, wishing we could stay longer! It is obviously more relaxing than WDW, but whether you want that on the front or back of your Orlando trip is a toss-up. Some people like to unwind before jumping into the parks, other people need it after to recover!
Either way you will love it!

Going through Lancaster...that is my backyard!

We had just come back from Hilton Head driving straight through from Western Maryland and it took us 11 hours. It was our first time there and we loved it! We only stayed 2 nites and it did not feel like enough. They had great activities. We did the campfire one evening and the 2 nature walks--one was secrets of the marsh in which you walk in the marsh and observe different wildlife with the boots provided by the resort to walk in the mud. It was fun though. They have an abundance of activities listed for the kids--crafts, storytime, and games. The pools are fun with the water tower slide, kiddie pool and at the beach resort is a water fun area for the kids. We had found we liked it so well we are talking about buying additional points there. We want to take our family and have a reunion.

ITA! Try for at least 3 nights, IMO. We booked 5 nights last Spring and couldn't bear to leave so we grabbed the 6th night on cash while we were there. Such a relaxing place!

I'm an HHI groupie, now, too, after our first visit this past summer. Loved it so much we arranged a family reunion there next summer for 5 nights. This past trip was 4 nights, and we accomplished alot, but there is still soooo much more to do! We used points for 5 weekday nights, and have Saturday night reserved at the Hampton Inn on the Island, so we can check in to DHHIR early the next morning and start enjoying the resort. Hope you have a fabulous time!!:thumbsup2

After reading the post, I really want to stay at HHI:lovestruc

It's not our home resort, so I'm a little worried about booking at the 7 month mark. I came up with different options just in case we can't get in.

First option: Spend 2 days at HHI, drive to SSR spend 5 to 6 days there, drive back, to HHI spend 2 more days there.

Second option: Drive from PA, spend 3 days at HHI, drive to SSR spend 5 to 6days there, drive back stay at a hotel for a day.

Third option: Drive from PA, stay at hotel midway, got to SSR for 5 to 6 days, drive to HHI spend 3 days.

Does anyone know which room type would give me a better chance. It's only going to be me, dh, and ds (2), ds(6). So we can fit into anything.

Thanks for all of the input:dance3:

If you are only staying 2 or three nights, try to get a Sunday, Wed or Fri night worked in there, those are the campfire nights....the campfire is a must do if you want to really get a feel for the resort. And it's perfect for kids.

I promise you will leave the resort wishing for a longer trip...and after a campfire, you may find your kids singing in the car all the way home...."Boom chicka boom" We're still singing it from our August trip:goodvibes

The family and I took our first trip to HHI this past July. We drove from suburbs of Philly to HH. It took us roughly 12 hours. Our kids are 8 and 9 yrs old. We stayed 5 days/4 nights (Monday to Friday). In order for me to book it 7 months out (SSR is our home), I had to call first thing each morning for four days to book each day of our trip. We stayed in a one bedroom villa. The villa was gorgeous. The resort was amazing. HHI itself is just beautiful. There was so much for the kids to do during the week. There are a lot of activities throughout the resort all day, every day. When you check in you will get a list of what is offered during the week. Our kids loved going up to the Merchantile Shop each day to the answer the Question of the Day, plus a bonus. When they answered the question of the day, they received a piece of candy. When they answered the bonus question right, they received a pin. It was great fun. The bar at the Beach House also has a question of the day. Tuesday nights, the Marina around the Resort sets of fireworks. I would recommend spending as much time at HHI as you can. Even our 5 days just didn't seem to be enough. The kids loved having the pool at the resort and the pool at the beach. During our trip, there was a BBQ, a night dance/swim party, and campfires. You can go crabbing off of the fishing pier. Pictures of this place just do not do it justice. It's amazing. Can you tell I fell in love with it?? I love WDW, but HHI was much more than I expected. It was such a relaxing place to be. Have fun!!!
