We have one working desktop & 1 new laptop for 5 people. There is another desktop that works but after it got a virus, I can't get the internet back up & running on it. It does work for papers but I don't really count that as one of our working ones.
We have 5 people and 5 computers. We have a desktop w/ internet available for use by everyone and my ds has a desktop in his room that is not hooked to the internet that he basically uses to play games. Then me, dh and dd27 each have a laptop.
Husband (age 37), Wife (age 36), Son (age 21 months) and we have a MacBook (used the most), an Ipad (mainly used as a boxing timer in gym), 2 Iphones(my wife mainly uses her iphone for everything), an Epson notebook (last used in 2009) and a Dell desktop (last used in 2009).
4, two are home use only laptops as they are too big and too heavy to stick in a carry on. and the other two are travel laptops as they are smaller and lighter.
we have three macs, all work but only one in use at the moment. The other two are too slow fby today's standards but work.
We just got an iPad cause we needed another computer-six of us clamoring for the one desktop. Also, four of us have iPod touches so for email or a quick browse, it keeps us all happy.
