How many cameras do you own?

Canon 30D dSLR
Canon S80 high-end digital
Canon F-1 film
Argus C3 film (inherited)

DW has
Kodak DX4350 P&S
and will have
Canon S3 IS high-end digital

Hmmmm. Have we gone too far?

Canon F1, now that is an old camera. Early '70 vintage. Still have mine.

I have a Canon S2, but sometimes I feel like it's too complicated to take somewhere just to get a few casual shots. As a result, I often leave the camera behind when I could be taking some great pictures. I wouldn't mind getting a second smaller, simpler camera that I can just slip in my purse once in a while.

Do any of you do that? Do you feel like it's a waste of money?

I have two, a Canon Digital Rebel xTi and a Konica Minolta Z-2. I just traded in my original rebel xT for the xTi, and I'm looking into a smaller P&S to replace the Z-2. Two is about my limit. And no, I most definitely don't think that's a waste of money. Once I settle on one, I plan to carry that smaller P&S everywhere I go, just in case. You might say I'm a little camera obsessed. But I can't do that with either the rebel or the Z2.

I use a Sony DSC-707 and a Canon Powershot SD600. I love the Sony more, but the Canon has a great setting to get a shot every second.

In Digital, I have the XT personally, 3 or 4 of the kids have their own pocket size of various makes.

In film, I have everything I have ever owned from my mickomatic on up, exept the K1000 that I gave to my older boy when he started getting in to B&W photography for a while.

I also have about 40% of my dad's collection of cameras, which includes probably 8 different film SLR's and many older cameras the pop out type with bellows.

I have:
Nikon N70 film SLR (with its own 28-80mm lens)
Nikon D50 digital SLR (4 other lenses)
Canon S30 3.1MP digital PnS

DW has a camera phone. If DW didn't have the camera phone then we would probably get another PnS as the S30 is in need of some help, though I think I will have it sent out for repair. It takes pictures, but if you touch the wrong spot on the lens cover it shuts down and you have to turn it back on. Kind of a pain.

Though I've never had an issue with bringing my SLR camera's anywhere (including bars) I can see the advantage of having a small compact digital PnS. The S30 was a bit to big to fit in my pocket, but fit nicely in a belt pouch and was very handy to carry around. I used it almost exclusively for 3 years till our Disney trip in '05 when I also brought along the N70. After that I was determined to get a dSLR. 2 months later the D50 arrived and the S30 has been put on the back burner used only sparingly and mostly for the video feature to get quick snips of video on the web for family to see of the kids.

i just read master masons..we might have tie here

Yeah, '70s doesn't seem that old for a film camera. I glanced at the wife's Canon SLR and it's an AE-1 - I think that's a mid-to-late '70s model. I bought my K1000 new in the early '90s IIRC but it was essentially unchanged from the much older ones. :)

I have a Panasonic LZ-7, a Nikon Coolpix 995, and once in a blue moon I used to use my Canon Elura 100 Mini-DV camcorder's whopping 1.3 MP still mode, :rolleyes1 but won't being doing that anymore now that I have the Panasonic.

i also recently picked up some of my father's cameras, including some folders.

but the one i forgot to mention is almost the crown jewel in my collection: my O2 atom. having a phone with a camera makes me a photographer (according to National Nine News, they're willing to pay for images from camera phones). now i just need a media pass...

We have:
Minolta SRT201 - 35mm SLR Film (haven't used in years)
Sony DSC-P10 (DD's current camera)
Kodak Z740
Nikon D200 - 18-200mm Nikkor lens (LOVE IT!)

I shoot with the Nikon mostly, but use the Kodak too.

Well, yesterday I added another camera to the collection... my first rangefinder. A first-generation Yashica Electro 35 G, dating from about 1968 or maybe '69 according to my research. The bad news is that it's in pretty sorry shape!

I got it via Freecycle (where people offer up stuff for free that'd otherwise go in the trash), I was the second person to get it as the first promptly re-offered it. The shutter is pretty well stuck (once I got it to close all the way, but only once - usually it's about half-open), the focusing ring is extremely difficult to turn, the aperture ring is almost as bad, the self-timer has to be pushed (hard) by hand to move, and the front ring (not even sure what it does) moves too easily. The lens frame has a couple dents and the glass itself has seen better days.

Oh well. It's still kind of interesting, and gives me an idea of how a rangefinder focuses (very different than an SLR!)

Ive added to my collection today too - my Canon 30d + 17-85 IS USM lens arrived this morning :)

Im a happy camper!

excellent find! you can check with your local camera shop to see if they do a CLA (clean, lubricate, and adjust). it's usually not too much and works quite well for the symptoms you've described. otherwise, if you're up for some adventure, you could take it apart yourself...

For usable stuff
Nikon D200
Minolta 5D
Pentax Optio W10
Minolta 700si - film

and a bunch of vintage stuff I've been collecting for years, Yashica Twin lens reflexes, folders, Brownies, etc. but they're all display pieces.
I bought a Kodak at an antique shop, manufactured in 1919, that still has an exposed roll of film in it. I've been curious about developing it just to see where that old timer has been....
