How many beds? Dream 9174

I'm so confused! How many people does room 9174, Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah, sleep? There are 2 adults and 2 kids, but neither kid will sleep on the upper bunk that folds from the ceiling. Does the deluxe verandah room sleep two on the foldout couch, or does it have a Murphy bed besides the sofa so we can avoid the upper bunk situation? And does the Murphy bed block the verandah door if we want to go outside while they're sleeping? Thank you!

While I don't have firsthand knowledge of that specific room, generally I think you'll be able to tell about the number of beds by looking at the description. In my experience, we had a Deluxe Verandah room - that slept 4, queen bed + the sofa foldout and the top bunk that comes from the ceiling. The rooms with the additional Murphy beds are called FamilyDeluxe Verandah. And in those rooms yes, the Murphy bed will unfold in front of the door. You might be able to sneak around it, though, to get to the balcony, I just don't know for sure.

According to this thread, it should sleep 4 with the twin sofa bed and drop-down bunk bed plus the queen. This was reported for the Fantasy, but to my knowledge rooms are identical on the Dream.

How old are the kids? Are they young enough to sleep foot-to-foot on the sofa bed (heads at each arm rest)?

Some "Family" staterooms (categories. 8 and 4) will sleep 5 with a murphy bed, but not all staterooms in those categories have the extra bed. And yes, if there is a murphy bed it will block access to the verandah.

Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks. The kids will be 8 and 11 at cruise time, and neither of them like upper bunks Now I'm wondering if I need to switch rooms...

The sofa bed would be too small for kids that age to share. They would need to use upper bunk

That's what I was afraid of. Looks like I need to figure out how to bribe one of them to sleep up top. They both hate bunks.

When my kids were around that age they both wanted to sleep up there because they wanted to fall asleep under the stars. That way they could make their, "wish upon a star."

Since they are 8 and 11, have the 8 year old sleep up on even days and the 11 year old sleep up there on odd days. Our son came up with that system when they were young. He was born on the 11th and DD was born on the 20th so he always had say on odd days and she got to decide things on even days. They never fought about that type of thing ever after that became the rule. My wife or I had final say on months with 31 days on in February leap years.

I was going to say that your son got the better end of that deal!

You could remove the mattress from the bunk and place it on the floor. A possibility that others have done.

If to hard/firm you can always asks for another mattress or topper, but usually minors find this adequate.
Some adults prefer this too, over the elevated bunk.

ETA; This may not be recommended if you have sleep walkers in the other berths, IMO. lol.

Thanks! I think I'll try to convince the younger son how special it is to sleep up there, but if he won't have it, then I'll chuck the mattress on the floor and they can take turns getting the floor!
