How many bags per person can be packed for plane trip?

I know that there is a weight limit, but is the bag limit 2 per person? Also how many things can each person carry on? Will my childs carseat count as a carry on even though she is paying full price for a seat?

It's been a while since I've traveled can you tell

You can check up to 2 bags per person and can carryon 1 bag plus a personal item (purse, backpack, laptop) per person. Since your child has a ticket, she would have her own baggage allowance. So if you have 3 people, you could check 6 bags, carryon 3 bags and have 3 personal items. I don't think the car seat counts, especially if she is sitting on it.

Thanks for the quick reply! We actually will pack the 6 bags of luggage because the magical express makes it so easy, and it may sound cheap, but we will pack one suitcase with diapers, and wipes and one with snacks, pbj etc.

Also will now have kids take on backpacks with their game boys and i pods and bathing suits and change of clothes (in case luggage gets lost) and will have the same for the 17 mo and her diaper bag and my purse. I'l probably have DH have a backpack with our change of clothes and bathing suits as well. Seems like a lot, but I don't want to worry about missing luggage. I just remember it being a pain to have the stroller and a carseat and a diaper bag when traveling with a baby, but it is easier than carrying her everywhere!

The rules vary by airline.

For example, Southwest allows three checked bags, one carry-on bag, and one carry-on personal item per ticketed passenger; there are weight and size limits (see http://www.southwest.com/travel_center/baggage.html for details).

Thanks Horace. I was about to chime in regarding my favorite airline. SWA is one of the few that let you check 3 bags per person. Each must weight no more than 50 pounds, or there is an extra charge.

We always pack a Snack bag as well it's not cheap just smart then you have an empty bag for your souvie's to bring home.This way you don't have to cram everything in and worry about being overweight.
