It is my opinion that the media is hyping this up now that Katrina is no longer front page news.

It aggravates me that the media is willing to cause panic just for ratings.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

It's also my opinion. :)

I heard a doctor yesterday on Fox saying that if you get it, you have a 66% chance of dying from it - talk about instilling a panic - jeez.

I'm not worried. If and when my Mom gets a flu shot then I'll worry about it.

My Mom works in a hospital ER, she has a heart attack, 2 bouts with cancer and chemo and just recently had a badly infected gallbladder that required emergency surgery. She has never had a flu shot, most that work in the ER with her don't get them...when they get worried and get theirs, then I'll get nervous.

Wow, your mom has been through alot, bless her heart!

But just a little FYI, the current flu shot will NOT protect against the bird flu. They are two different kinds of flu, and not at all related.

There is currently no vaccine that protects against the bird flu.

So yes, while i know its a REAL threat, i'm not TOO worried.....YET!

This is not what the Dr. should be telling us. He should tell us how to not catch it. BTW I believe that number is way to high.

Probably meant to say that you have a 66 percent chance of dying without any kind of treatment. There are far more deadly diseases than bird flu, but it is still a significant threat. Countries in developing nations would suffer the greatest loss from a worldwide pandemic.

I'm sorry to say it isn't too high.

And also not a matter of *if*, but *when*.

Have really not given it much thought...

Omigosh I am most DEFINITELY concerned about the Bird Flu! I'm reading about it online right now as it is now in several European countries!

It is unlike anything we as a country have experienced and we are not prepared. There is no vaccine available and the medicine is in short supply.

So when we want to bash drug companies, lets just pray they continue coming out with new drugs, hopefully one that will fight this flu!!!

My cousin (we are close fam) developes, sets-up and trains hospitals, docs, nurses on medical equipment. (Can you say excellent job and I want her pay! :earseek: ) Doing this she travels all over the world, alot of Europe, etc. She has said for a few years that this is her only fear, and at the time it wasnt even talked about in the US here. It is nasty stuff, could travel fast, and we are just not equiped to handle any sort of health crisis. Not to even think about how much health care insurance costs would rise, think home insurance after a bad hurricane year, and multiply, and multiply!
