In December, I will be going by myself. I am not a big meal eater, but love sweets. Will the servers get extremely mad if I make a reservation for some of the nice TS options and only order an appetizer and desert?

Will I be treated differently in any way?

I intend to go to the California Grill in a few days and order sushi, flatbread, possibly a dessert and some wine. No entree. I won't be ordering an entree at Le Cellier either. I can't imagine why anyone would get mad at me for that and I guess I don't understand the reasoning. I've done that before and no one ever got mad. You're patronizing the restaurant, why would they be mad at you for not ordering an entree?

I suppose it's possible that this could get into a tipping discussion - please remember that tipping discussion is not permitted on the main board and should be done only on the Tipping Info Thread, which is located at the top of this forum as a sticky. Should this turn into a tipping discussion, I'll need to close it.

:goodvibesThey will not be upset and will treat you the same as any other diner. People do what you are proposing all the time. Enjoy!

I am glad that you posted this. I was planning on doing something similar with T-Rex. None of the entrees jumped out at me so I was going to order a couple of appetizers and maybe drinks (they do have cocktails...right?). This way we can still see T-Rex and the kids can get some souvie glasses but I don't have get a whole meal. I am glad to read that it won't be a problem.

Uh ok.. I thought I was just reasuring the op on how servers actually likes addons, but ok...

It's not a tipping issue for me. I guess I feel guilty for making a reservation for a place that I know full well that I won't be eating a full meal at. I didn't know if there were some unwritten rules or expectations about dining reservations.

I do this all the time, I'm just not one to eat a whole lot of food at one time, and I love appetizers and a glass of wine. I have never been treated differently than other times when I have my whole family and it's going to be a big meal.

Enjoy!!!

Who cares what they think, its YOUR MONEY, its YOUR TIME, its YOUR VACATION! It does not matter, appy, drink, desert whatever as they are there to serve YOU, not the other way around!!!!!! :)

I don't think you should have anything to worry about. I know plenty of people that eat appetizers for meals. I highly doubt that you would be the first to do that. I've seen the size of many of the apps and they could be considered entrees if they wanted to add them to the menu.

Just wanted to reassure you that your plans aren't unusual at all. Dh and I frequently order a couple of appetizers (instead of entrees) and two small side salads. We ask for the salads to be served first, and then share the appetizers. We often don't get dessert, but on the occasion when we do, we share. We've done this all over the US, including WDW. Servers have always been just fine with our preference for smaller meals.
Enjoy your dinner!! :goodvibes

You shouldn't feel bad at all. I would hope that a server would not get mad at you or treat you differently, but unfortunately there are some people out there who would. :confused3 I've seen servers in restaurants treat different table differently for no reason. Sweet as sugar to one table and practically throwing the food at the next table.

Well if you're feeling really guilty then if you have Le Cellier's then I'll take your reservation from you:rotfl2: You know just to help you out so you don't feel guilty and all ya know:thumbsup2

I made "just dessert" adr last march for my bday at BD. Had to try the grapefruit cake.
I guess going in they knew this so didn't expect me to linger an hour only on cake. I politely told the server we were just there for me to have my "bday" cake and wouldn't linger. He was the best!!! He made a big deal about my dessert. Gave me just the same amount of patience and was as polite to us as with any other diners. He even brought me out a special dessert for my bday. (way to much sugar and no meal!!! lol)

So I would say go enjoy but to be polite about others dining don't linger hours with just dessert, don't hurry but don't linger. (hope that makes sense):cheer2:

My husband and I normally only order app, 2 side salads and 1 entree for both of us. The meal portions, we found are larger then we normally eat and leftovers are a waste of money. I also found out if you are polite to the servers your service is usually excellent.

I agree with everyone. They should treat you exactly the same, and I wouldn't worry about it. Just have a great time. :)

Some of the servers will probably be happier with the quicker turn over time with you just ordering 2 courses as opposed to 3.

In my prior experience, I've never had any poor service when ordering appetizers and desserts, no entree. Don't worry, you'll be fine.

If you have a snotty server anyway, I figure there's bound to be one bad apple out there. ;)

Enjoy the appetizers and desserts!
