How loud are the doors?

Strange question maybe:

DO the stateroom doors make a lot of noise when you open / close / unlock them? Would it be possible (likely) to leave the room for coffee and an early morning jog and return to the verandah without waking the rest of the family?

Thanks.

It's not the noise of the door that you'll have to worry about, but the sonic boom when you flush the commode!!! :earseek:

They're like hotel room doors...if you let it slam shut, you'll wake everyone up, but you can close it quietly. :D

OMG this is soooooo true. On our last cruise it was decided early on that if you had to use the toilet in the middle of the night not to flush (unless it was absolutely necessary):earseek:

As far as the door is concerned DH got up and left several mornings and we never knew he was gone.:sunny:

As long as you hold the door while you're shutting it, it's not bad at all. I definitely went in and out a number of times in the morning while the family while snoozing!

You can easily go in and out without waking the rest of the family if you hold the door but the commode will wake the whole deck!

My daughter makes sure she has the door open and one foot out before she flushes on the ship!!:scared1:

I love the smiley. It is perfect for this topic of conversation.

I'm really glad you brought this up. My 3 year old is very sensitive to loud sounds. I'll have to warn him to let me flush for him so he doesn't get upset.

Combining the two topics: If I were to go out for an early morning stroll and didn't want to risk waking them with the toilet, where is a good place to head to the potty?? (We'll be on deck 8 near the middle.)

Doors - Remember when you were in the hospital, after just having given birth to your beautiful new offspring, and the baby was sleeping and you were sleeping...except that every hour on the hour someone would come in at all hours of the night to check on you both, and remember how loud that door was? Well, this one is louder, and so are all the doors of your neighboring cabins. But fear not, if you hold your door as it closes, that will soften the effect. Also, your dawn to dusk activities will surely provide you with complete exhaustion and therefore uninterrupted sleep.

Toilets - Yes, warn the children. Barricade the doors and windows. NEVER, and I mean NEVER do a courtesy flush while you are still within range of the toilet if you want to keep your internal organs. These toilets have only slightly more suction than your average airplane commode at 35,000 feet. Also, the noise is deafening. I recommend Sony NCR-5 Noise Cancelling headphones. Just leave them on the door handle for anyone going in. You definitely don't want anyone going in unprepared.

But heck, you are cruising...you can deal with the noise!!!

There are beautiful public bathrooms all around the ship. One of my favorite things (I know this sounds odd) was to check out all the bathrooms....they are gorgeous and all a bit different design. They are all done in marble and granite and just very pretty (at least the women's....can't vouch for the men's rooms!!!

Reference Room Doors -

Also be careful if your verandah is open. I lost control of the door because of the imbalance of the air from the Verandah door being open. Luckily this was just before supper time, so I don't think I woke anyone up.

The door slammed shut - so loudy - that our neighbor came out into the hall to see what was going on. I don't think I ever said "Sorry about that neighbor". I was too stunned to say anything.

So I'll apologise now. :o

This is the funniest post I have ever read!

Thanks for indulging us in your potty experiences!

I have "heard" that a whole roll of toilet paper can be unrolled by the flush of these toilets! I've not tried it but I sure have been tempted.

The doors can be closed quietly but most people (not all kids) just let them go. Too big of a hurry I quess.

I think this is an appropriate smilie for this thread.

Thanks for the warnings about the doors and the toilets. I don't know which one is scarier!:earseek:
