how long would you suggest to take advantage of both universal parks ?

You usually don't need anymore than 1 maybe 2 trips to each universal park (universal and islands of adventure).

For Islands of adventure, I suggest getting there either really early, or going later at night if you want to see The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The queue for the main ride will get up to 75minutes a few minutes into opening, but that's normally the shortest it'll get (that's during the summer anyway). If you weren't particularly bothered about Harry Potter World, still try and get in early, as the queues for all the other rides will be 5-10 minutes at most until around midday!

1 day for each park if you stay onsite with express pass. We went on Hulk, FJ, Spiderman, several times. We did everything at Universal once, just worked our way around the park.

We had a 3 day hopper pass and I thought that was great. we pretty much averaged one day at both parks and spent the 3rd day doing our favorites in both parks.
