How long would you wait.

Why did she wait so long about finding him?

Trapped-parent, what would be your suggestion for Sdoane to try to help? As I see it, she's done everything she could without endangering her own child.

I couldn't have said it any better, Shannon.

Two hours??? What in the world was she thinking?? Let alone doing while her child wandered off!!!! :(
Just another example of someone in desperate need of parenting classes.

SDOANE please let us know what is happening. It has been 3 hours since you first posted and 5 hours since this child disappeared.

Please let us know if our prayers have been answered.

In CT if a child is found wandering around unsupervised the parents are immediately arrested and charged with endangering.

If this neighbor has still not found the child and not contacted the authorities I beg you to do so at once.

OMG!! PLEASE let us know something!!!!! I would just die if this happened to me.

I seriously panic if DS is out of my sight for more than a minute... unless we are safely at home and I can hear him... Lame I know but oh well... If I couldnt find him (his new game is hide and seek) in about 3 minutes, the amount of time i'td take me to search my apt, I'd be on the phone to the police...

Anything, yet? We had a similar situation in our neighborhood last year with a 3 year old. However, his parents immediately contacted the sherrif's department. There were police, firemen, and helicopters everywhere! It was VERY scary. All the neighbors were out searching, but none of us have small children and it wasn't raining, either. Please let us know what happens. This is very scary.

People think I'm paranoid for keeping my screen doors locked during the day, but this is why. My 2 year old could wander out at any time. But I know for certain I would discover it earlier than "a couple of hours" later! If she goes to play in her room alone, I check on her every so often, even if I just holler up, "Whatcha doin'?" Children are too precious to be neglected for that length of time. I hope we hear a positive update soon. If not, I'll be up tonite thinking about that poor child:(

That poor child. I can't imagine DD even getting out of the house w/o my knowing it. I once lost track of her in a store for 5 minutes and believe me it was the longest 5 minutes of my life. This is just so scary.

I just got here, any updates yet?

You are NOT paranoid by keeping your screen door locked. A co workers nephew 2 1/2 yrs old. wandered outside and drowned in a goldfish pond in front of a neighbor across the roads house. He wasn't even missing a minutes before his mom noticed and went out searching for him. Only 18" of water was in the pond. You can never be too careful.

There was a 17 month old that drowned here on Tuesday. His Grandmother was watching him and when a 5 yr old walked outside he followed her without the grandma knowing. He went over to a wading pool and fell in.

Looking for an update. Hope there is a good update soon!

Oh my gosh--hope there is good news soon. Last Fall my friend and I found a two year old wandering alone in our neighborhood one morning as we walked back from the bus stop. He had his clothes on inside out, a very dirty diaper, and was carrying a banana and a set of car keys. We walked around for over an hour knocking on doors, trying to find his home or someone who knew where he lived. When we finally did, and then found his mom, she didn't even know he was gone--she wouldn't even take him from our arms, she was so mad at him for leaving the house. It was really sad.

I hope that no update doesn't mean there has been bad news. :(

Any update?

And - you were absolutely correct in staying indoors with your little one - that is what 9-11 and the police and search and rescue team are for!

I flipped out when the kids and I were coming out of this underground pizza restaurant the other day. Bobby and I were walking up the stairs together with Jessica ahead of us. When I got halfway up the stairs, I couldn't see Jessica at the top of the stairs. She had turned and gone to stand by a tree but I freaked out when I didn't see her. I can't imagine not completely losing it if your two year old had been missing for two hours.

I freak anytime I cant find my 3 yr old right away. They really have no fear and will try to go outside or run into the street. I cant imagine not being able to find one of my boys. Even the older ones have to always tell me where they are going. And I do call their friends houses. You just cannot be to careful.
kbeverina--I would have called CPS about that baby. Thats just scary she didnt know he was gone and then mad.

Another neighbor called the police shortly before we finally found the mom--we were thinking that after an hour surely someone would be out looking for him and we were starting to wonder if something bad had happened to the mom. It turned out the police had been called on another occasion about this child wandering the neighborhood--a deputy who had responded to the first call put two and two together and arrived at the correct house about the same time we found it. Apparently they'd been instructed to put deadbolts on the front door to prevent him from leaving the house, but hadn't done it. I know that CPS was called after the second time, but don't know what ever became of the case. But I can't imagine seeing a stranger walk up holding your two year old and not wanting to grab him right away and never let him go.

They did find the child. I don't know the details, b/c I'm not extremly close with these neighbors. I'm just happy that they found him.

I hope it was a reality check for this set of parents though. We have a pond in the backyard that can be very inviting for young ones. Their two little ones were on the back easement on one of the electric kid's cars. They ended up on our property and were dangerously close to the water. We went down to let the parents know. Dad was watching football and mom wasn't home. Noone was watching the kids. The oldest is five and the other one is two and mom's expecting another in a couple of months.

I just thank God that he was found. We have an alarm system and all the doors have the hotel latches so DD would have a hard time getting out to begin with, but I also keep an eye out on her. She doesn't even play in our fenced backyard by herself, b/c sadly that isn't even safe anymore.

Thank-you everybody! {{Hugs}}
