We have a search for hhi for next summer. The person said we might not hear anything until the end of the year. My question is, how long would you give it before you start searching for another vacation option?

We really want to go to hhi, but understand we might not get anything and don't want to wait too long and our options of switching are limited.

I think my answer probably depends on where else you'd be willing to go. While many owners deposit a full year in advance, some others won't until they have to pay their annual fees, and that's usually around the new year.

It's probably worth calling every so often to see what your options are in the moment. Things come and go all the time.

I would at least wait until the end of the year if not into early spring 2010.

You probably won't see anything at the earliest until this summer, because most people only can deposit their week a yr out(plus you may have to pay your MF's early, so you might not see anything until MF's are due).

Using an independent exchange company, I put my request in for summer 2009 in April. My exchange came through in mid July for a 4th of July week at MB. (non-DVC TS).

You need to be patient, I've freaked out and booked something else and about 60 days before I wanted to go, there was the exact resort, exact date that I wanted, A 2br at St. James in Beaver Creek for the Vail Dance Festival. :headache:

I now have learned my lesson, I'll book something that I can cancel and let the search go until my cancellation date on the other unit.

Thanks for your advice. The guy at rci said we should have deposited our week 2 years out (which I didn't know was an option). So, I was trying to see how long we have to wait until something might show up.

I've been wondering about doing this myself. I'd have to pay MF a year in advance, which isn't an issue, but I've always wondered how much it would help. Does anyone know??

My week that trades on RCI, I can't deposit more than a yr from date of check in. It's early Aug, so I'll have to call and prepay my MF's(due 12/31).
I called and asked.

I think some of the TUGGers were trying to figure out the optimal time to deposit in RCI. There was a thread on the subject.

you should be fine for summer 2010, as long as you have more than one or two resorts requested and you have a range of time, not just a specific week. If you only want 1 reosrt and only 1-2 weeks, then that is much tougher.

As for the 2 years out thing--RCI always says that --but, I would NEVER deposit my good weeks with RCI more than 1 year out. I am a TUGGER (TGU2.net), as referred to in prior post, and many of us have found that prime weeks do better at about 1 year out--when demand has really built up for them--so we actually "hold" our weeks until 1 year out to get the maximum "trading power."
Also, years ago, a RCI rep told me that most people deposit summer beach weeks right around LAbor Day for the next year--she said people go on vacation and then start talking about where they want to go the next year--so, for the past 10 years, we have started looking right after Labor Day and have always been able to get a variety of choices for HHI for summer.

My parents have traded many times into HHI with a 2 BR (non DVC) ORlando week. Now, if you don't get a match by next Oct/Nov., then I would start considering back up plans. good luck. Elaine

Thanks for making me feel better! We have a search for any hhi resort from June 25-Aug 15. My sister is a school teacher so our weeks are a little limited, but anytime during the summer is good.
