I feel like I should know this....but I have the healthiest kids ever. Seriously, they have vomited less than 10 times total between the 2 of them....ever. I hardly even qualify as a parent :rotfl:

Anyway, we went away to the mountains this weekend with another family who has 3 boys. The oldest boy threw up on the way there Friday night but he has a VERY weak stomach so noone thought twice about it. He was fine after with no fever or anything. The middle boy threw up Saturday evening after dinner. The youngest was sick all night and Sunday morning. They all made it home....2 hrs in the car...fine and are all okay now. No fever or any other symptoms for anyone.

I don't know why but I didn't think twice about sending my children to school. Well, guess what?? I just picked DD up from school because the vomited while trying to call me to tell me her stomach hurt. I should have just gotten DS while I was there but I didn't even think to. He gets out in an hour and the damage is already done I guess.

So my question is.......if they feel fine in the morning, should they go to school? If DS isn't sick tonight do you think he'll be okay? Should I keep them home tomorrow no matter what? How long after are they okay if there isn't a fever?

I'm keeping them home from dance and scouts tonight. DD has a dance competition on Saturday so hopefully this is short lived.

Oh and the Mom from the other family is sick today.....crossing my fingers for DH and I!!!!!!

Our school have a 24 hour fever free/vomit free rule, so they'd be mad if I sent her. I don't keep home kids if their sibling is sick - sometimes they don't get it. As someone who's children have vomited hundreds of times, no food, no more than a tablespoon of liquid (pedialite is best, but yucky) every 15 minutes. I'd hold off solid food until tomorrow.

I would say they should be symptom free for 24 hours . . .could be just a bug, but I'd keep them home tomorrow as well.

Our school district's policy is vomit/fever free for 24 hours.

Thanks. Our school doesn't have a policy. I know as a general rule it's 24 hours for a fever. I just never knew if the same could be applied to vomit. Like I said, my children...our family in general...don't get sick like that often. I'll definitely keep her home tomorrow. Is DS doesn't vomit tonight, he should be okay then?

I go by the 24 hour rule also as long as they are feeling ok. Most of the time, kids bounce back pretty quickly from a stomach bug. I wouldn't keep your ds home unless he gets sick. He may come down with it in the next few days or not at all. I hope you escape it!

If my boys don't have a fever and are not a risk to vomit, they go to school...

Our school policy is Fever free without meds for 24 hours and same with throwing up.

If they feel fine tomorrow I would send them to school, especially since it sounds like a fast moving stomach bug. Chances are if they are contagious the germs were spread already.

Same here. I've been known to keep my kids home a little longer if they haven't eaten anything substantial either. Just because they didn't have a fever or throw up for 24 hours doesn't mean they've eaten anything to sustain themselves. I can't send them to school feeling weak like that!
