I am planning a May 2017 trip to WDW. As of right now, our plan was to rent points. We went on a dvc tour during our first trip to the world in 09 and loved the idea of dvc but already owned a timeshare so it wasn't financially possible. Side note, we bought that timeshare because it traded into Disney but when dvc switched to RCI we were screwed. Anyway, we are now in a better financial position to own DVC, so I'm curious how long Poly will be available to buy direct? I'm also curious if it would be possible or even make sense to try to get this transaction completed and be able to use our own points before next May or if we should just wait until we're down there to buy?
Assuming you continue with your rental plan...
what is your plan for your next trip? When is it, where will you stay, etc, etc, etc? Makes a huge difference.
You asked
"How long will Poly be offered direct?" Why did you phrase it that way?
- Do you HAVE to buy direct?
- Why?
The only reason I can see for buying DVC direct at any resort is
- You have to have it right NOW -- which is a falsehood. You don't need to have ANYthing right NOW!
- (Except oxygen and glucose, but that's another topic.)
- AND...it's a brand new resort, so there is no resale.
Frankly, if that were my predicament...I wouldn't buy at all. Buying direct because one has to in order to get financing is the worst reason I can think of. Buying direct because you have to have it right now and there is currently no resale is a close second.
I would certainly never recommend anyone buy DVC or any other timeshare influenced by their next trip. And if the trip after this one is a year or more away, there will be Poly resale contracts available which will save you some money.
And...as Aurora noted above, if you want 2BRs, Poly is probably not a great choice to begin with.
You made one timeshare mistake buying a timeshare for its exchange capabilities -- which, not surprisingly, changed. Don't make another timeshare mistake buying a different timeshare for the wrong reasons.
