How long will a bee/wasp sting hurt?

I googled and found out how to take care if it, but now I am wondering how long this pain is going to last and I couldn't find that info. Anyone that can give me a time frame?

I didn't find a stinger, and the area is red and only a bit swollen, but it's still pretty painful. Thanks!

my mil always had us put a paste made out of meat tenderizer and water on a bee sting. if you don't have any you can use vinager, it works by relaxing the muscles. hope it quits soon.

I was stung by a bee a few years ago on my thigh. My entire thigh swelled up and I was amazed at how long it hurt. I think it was probably a few hours, if I remember correctly. It made me be a lot more sensitive and loving to my kids when they got stung. I had a friend with me and we were at the park with our kids. A bee flew up my shorts and I tried to get it out, and of course it stung me. I was trying not to be a baby in front of my friend and all of the kids, but I couldn't stop saying, "Wow, this REALLY hurts. I cannot believe how much this hurts!" I'm sure I was very annoying.

I hope you feel better soon!

If it was a yellow jacket (aka hornet) then there won't be a stinger -- they don't lose them, and they are capable of stinging several times in succession. They look just like small striped bees to the naked eye.

It depends on how sensitive you are to the venom, but personally, I tend to have pain/swelling for about 16 hours with yellow jacket stings -- I find them much worse than bees.

Best thing for them IME is Dermoplast spray (it has Benzocaine in it.)

I didn't see what stung me, but I'm guessing some sort of wasp since there were a lot in the area when it happened. We were at our outdoor service for church at a picnic area and there was lots of leftover food from whoever used it earlier this weekend. I felt something in my hair and brushed my hand over it and was stung between the thumb and pointer finger in the fleshy area of the palm. I think it may have got me more than once because I tensed up my hand and could feel it vibrating in my hand as I felt the stinging start, but there is still no stinger that I can find.

Thanks everyone, it's getting better and hopefully will let up sooner rather than later.

Once I was stung by a wasp on my hand and the whole thing swelled up...my hand looked like a rubber glove that had air blown into it. It stayed that way for a couple of days. If you start showing signs of swelling take some benedryl (for the allergic reaction), better sooner than later.

My daughter got stung on her back by something while we were in Epcot 2 weeks ago. It stung for about 3 hours or so, then she either forgot about it, or was more worried about the lightening storm that was happening. :rotfl:
