How long wait for 7DMT during party?

Hi all!

My FP+ window for our upcoming trip opens tonight...Huzzah! Unfortunately, fast passes for 7DMT are gone for the duration of my trip. I will keep looking, in case a cancellation happens, but I'm not going to count on it. We will be attending MVMCP on November 8 (first party). What do wait times look like for 7DMT during a party? I"m wondering if it would be shorter than rope drop? We should be able to make it until midnight at the party.

Thank yoU!

Last year during a MNSSHP the lines for 7DMT were 45 minutes plus during most of the evening, according to the app and the sign at the entrance. They dropped to 30 minutes soon after 11pm, which is when we rode. After riding, we hopped back in line again and the wait was about 15 minutes soon before closing.

We went to a sold out MVMCP last December, on a Tuesday the week before Christmas week..

The 7DMT waits were my biggest disappointment with the party. It was the one attraction that we had never done before that we wanted to hit. We went over there three times (skipped going the first two times as waits were too long and would have meant good possibility of missing the Anna/Else castle show the first time and the second parade the second time (two other must do things on our list)). We got into the party at a little after 4:30 p.m. and went over to 7DMT (maybe there at 4:45 p.m.) (note between 4 and 7 you have party guests and regular guests). The queue looked long and waits were posted as an hour and 15 minutes (too close for comfort wanting to hit a 6 p.m. event). We skipped and did splash mountain and big thunder mountain instead -- short enough waits and time to get back to the castle to see the Anna/Elsa castle show (talk about being packed in like sardines by the castle -- crazy). Next we thought we'd try hitting the mine train during the first parade -- everyone's going to be at the parade, right? We'll so much for that idea. The queue looked just as long as the first time and had posted wait times at an hour and 15 minutes again. So we hit Peter Pan, It's a Small World, Mickey's Philharmagic, Pirates, and then got to Frontier Land in time for the fireworks and second parade. So OK -- now time is running out and we headed to the mine train one last time and said we're doing it. Ride times now were posted as being an hour -- a little disappointing as the two things we still wanted to hit were this and space mountain. Actual wait ended up being 45 minutes. So once off we ran over to Space Mountain and got in two rides there -- second one in line at about 11:58 p.m.

My mom and nephew were with us for most things, but skipped the mine train and space mountain for pictures with characters and met us over there at midnight. My son and I were able to do eight attractions in total -- two rides on space mountain plus Anna / Elsa castle show, fireworks, and second parade. We wasted a bunch of time, though, going over to 7DMT two times and not doing it.

I had read about crowds on rides being so light and walk on, but being a rope drop person myself I found lines for rides during the party quite a bit heavier than they are those first two hours after rope drop.

Oh and after Anna/Elsa the wait at the counter service place Casey's to get hot dogs for dinner was 30 minutes too. Again party and regular guest were both in the park at that point.

We did get all our must dos in (one was doing some Main Street USA shopping), but that had to wait until after midnight and we were there from midnight to 1:30 a.m. (no time for that earlier) -- Party was more crowded and we were more rushed than I would have liked given fewer park hours to get everything we wanted to do in. We chose the party instead of a day at the MK -- didn't do both on the trip. For attractions, IMHO, rope drop is better than the party on days with a crowd calendar level posted as a seven for less.

I've been going since 1971 when I was 10. This was my first party -- 42 trips in total over a 44 year period.

Last October we had posted waits of about 40 minutes, but actually only waited 20. This was right after Hallowishes.

Just remember that the party does not start until 7:00. You are allowed into the park early starting at 4:00 with your party ticket. However, the park is still open with it's regular park hour times and it's regular daily guests until 7:00. If you try doing rides during that time, you will be waiting in longer lines. Many people will get some meet and greets out of the way and eat dinner before the 7:00 start time. Lines are longer at the beginning of the party and lessen as the night goes on. The party nights get increasingly more crowded each year. If 7DMT with minimal wait time is important I would do rope drop.

Late night is your best option for riding 7D with a short wait. On a recent visit, we found a 10 minute actual wait just after Wishes. The posted wait time was 65 minutes. Just keep in mind that those posted times are often greatly exaggerated at night to discourage riders.

We've ridden 7D several times without FP+ and the longest wait we've had using this strategy was 20 minutes during opening week in 2014.

I would also keep looking for a pre-park opening breakfast at BOG. We rode SDMT twice with no wait right after our BOG breakfast last week. I imagine some folks will cancel their early breakfast and decide they want to sleep in a little. Keep looking for FP+ and BOG breakfast. If none of that works, then I agree that your best bet is at night right before close.

We actually do have an 8:20am reservation at BOG on a 9:00am opening day during our trip. I grabbed the reservation specifically with 7DMT in mind. Unfortunately, then I explored the menu a bit and realized that there is not one thing on the menu that my husband would want to eat. $50 for breakfast for a family of three (one of whom probably wouldn't even eat) sounds like a bad proposition, even at Disney. I"ve kept the reservation for now (kind of waiting to see what happens with hours in November), but I'm just not sure we are going to actually do it. I'm willing to wait in line for a bit (45 minutes would probably be the max). THanks for giving me some ideas regarding how we can do this. We may try rope drop on our 2nd MK day. My son is a big nervous about the ride, so I don't want to wait in line at rope drop on our very first day. I"d rather we ride some things first, have him remember that he's braver than he thinks, and then enjoy our 7DMT ride!

(Of course, by our 2nd MK day, we are hopefully going to have Harry Potter Escape from Gringotts and Forbidden Journey under our belts....and depending on how those go, he may never want to ride another ride again! :):) )
