How LONG to wait??

Hi, We are flying to CA 7 weeks from now,from Boston or Providence. I have been checking prices a couple of times a day and pretty much around $315. is what I get.This is an OK price, but since I need 5 tickets even 20. lower would be good. How close can I get to my day of leaving and still be offered a good fare?? I was thinking I should buy by next week,6 weeks out.I have noticed when lower flights are offered it is for travel by June 5th,so I am hoping something may be offered for SUMMER travel next week?? Any input is APPRECIATED!! I jusy want to get my tickets and stop having to check ALL the time! By the way I must have missed the DING(SWA) fare because all low fare for my days are sold out! I REALLY HATE this new DING, I liked a SWA Fare Sale much better! At least you had a few days to book not a few hours! Thanks, Joan
