Could any Diser,s tell me how long I should plan for getting through passport control at Sanford. Also the time it would take to pick up my hire car from Dollar and be driving. So basically the approx. time you would allow from landing to getting on the highway.Thank You :confused3

Last time I came through Sanford we got through immigration etc within 20 mins of being off the plane, I certainly wouldn't have any qualms about flying into there again, even though the transfer took longer we were still in our hotel within 1 1/2 hours of touchdown.

In september We got through immagration really quick about 20 minutes but the wait for the hire car was about 2 hours :(

Would you believe that from exiting the aircraft, going through immigration, collecting our suitcases then sitting in our hire car - it took 30 minutes, that was an absolute record for us, I have known it to take an hour or so (which is still a lot quicker than Orlando International). :)

Thank you.I had anticipated it to take a lot longer than you have mentioned to get through immigration. :sunny:

On a similar note, can anyone tell me how long it will take to drive to the International Drive area, from Sanford.

Also, where is the best place to get driving directions/route maps?

Usually between 35 mins to 1 hour 10 mins from getting off of plan to being in the hire car.

Driving from Sanford to Orlado, depends on which route, but if it is the first time you are doing it about 1 hour or there abouts.

Geordie ric, we landed at sanford in Dec and cleared customs within 15 mins, but we have been there before when it was like a cattlemarket, pushed into a room whilst the queues disapeared, this time look a least an hour

Depends on how many planes land at any one time. We happened to be delayed with hurricane frances, and think a few other planes were delayed, which meant we all landed at similar time.

It is a very easy drive. about 40 mins. take the 417 toll road which is very quiet. Then turn off at the sign for the international airport which I think is the 528 Bee Line express way, go straight onto exit 1 and that is international drive. Turn left for Seaworld or right to go past the conference centre and the main part of international drive.

I cant tell you the exact minutes but we went down this long corridoor after getting of the plane then waited in a Q Had to hand the some forms that we filled out on the plain( may have been green waiver forms) i was told to fill something out again as i hadn't done it properly. We got to the desks and the chap asked us a few questions took are passports.
He asked my son what are you doing here in America which my son replied" Duhh on holiday of coarse" then he asked if he could look at his gun. The chap told him if he carried on that way here in America he would get arrested.
We all saw the funny side but i was itching to get away we walked into another area collected are suitcase's turned around and walked out the door.

I could,nt believe how simple and fast it was, we are landing in Olando International this time so ime prepared for long haul.

We were out of Orlando International and driving within an hour in September - checking-in at BCV 90 minutes after we landed. But we were first off the aircraft.

Just a cautionary note - the only time I flew into Sanford it took ages to get through immigration and we then had a very slow moving queue at the car hire desk. It took over 2 hours until we left the airport.

I don't mean to put you off at all as I'm sure this was an isolated case. Most people seem to get through very quickly as you can see from all the replies.

It can very much vary depending on time of year and the number of flights that day (and in what order they arrive - if you are the last plane in of 4 or 5, your wait time can easily double). Of three experiences last year, April took about an hour, August about 45 minutes and December was a near-record 35 minutes from landing to being on the road (albeit we were among the first off and were the first flight arrival of the day). Sanford is now among the busiest immigration gateways for the US (THE busiest in July and early August, with almost 8,000 people to process in the course of an afternoon), so it can be troublesome at peak periods, but by and large it is still a simple and hassle-free process. If you want to check on arrivals/departures on any given day, look up this link: Sanford Arrivals

Just over 2 hours to get out of the aircraft and out of the airport. Long queues and many security checks. This was Feb '04. Remember dying for a coffee!

04 it was really quick, less than an hour and we were on our way.Last year was terrible though we were through immergration very quick the queue for car hire was about 2 hours. We landed around 6 and it was after 10 before we were on our way.

I'm sure we were just unlucky though.

We also had the slow long wait at the car hire Desk about 2 hours :( Well I never, I had to stay outside with all our cases and 4 kids that where tired/hungry and thirsty, As you cant take you cases into where dollar was :( I dont know if they do that all the time or just when its really busy.

I have been about 10 times over last 4 years and never queued at the dollar desk for long than 10 minutes. what could have happened to make tha queue 2 hours?
December 17th last year from landing to Homewood suites on International drive was about 1 hour 45 minutes.
