we are planning on arriving at MK for about 1/2 hour prior to opening. For planning purposes, how long is the wait for the monorail/ferry and entrance to the park at this time of day. Is it really crowded driving into the park, lots of traffic?

Non-early entry day and we will be going the last week of April, if it helps.

Thanks!!!

Gosh, shouldn't take long at all. Walking through and up to
the monorails takes a few minutes, a few minute wait for
a monorail and a couple minutes on the monorail. 10 minutes
total maybe.

I guess I'm curious if it's mobbed at opening with all of the other people wanting to beat the crowds :) ?

Are you staying on property or off? if you are driving into WDW in the morning from US-192, the traffic at that time of morning can be murder. Once you are on World Drive though, it's not too bad. I would say about 15 minutes to park the car max (once you are past the main WDW welcome sign), another 5 for a shuttle to the TTC and 10-15 for the monorails. In the morning, the express monorails to MK are very efficient, despite the huge crowd and nowhere near as bad as leaving at night. If you are staying on property (which I assume not one of the MK resorts), you can get a bus that goes directly to the MK side of the lagoon (avoiding the whole tram/monorail altogether). The ferryboats also seem to never have a wait to get on the first one that arrives since most people prefer the monorails. They do take about 5-7 minutes to traverse the lake and do wait until they are full before leaving, adding another 3 minutes or so...

If you really want to be there for the opening, with the show at the train station, give yourself some extra time, just in case. We try to arrive at the parking lot around 8:30. Sometimes we zip right in within 15 minutes, other times it takes up to a half hour (this includes parking, tram, and monorail/ferry.)

There are a lot of people there for opening, but it's not too bad, usually. We have found it worse at around 11 AM. If you don't care about being there for the actual opening, we find it much less crowded around 9:15 AM. (This is for off-season. We have seasonal passes, so we don't go during the biggest peak times.)

Keep in mind, though, that on any given day, it could be different. We were there a few weeks ago, and there were about a million cheerleaders travelling in large packs, clogging everything up. :sunny:
