How long should we wait for airfare sales?

HOw long should we wait for the prices on airfare to go down from CA? Right now we can get 2 tickets for 598 with taxes and everything, should we do this, or should we wait to see if they go down anymore? This is with American Airlines, we have flow America West to Orlando before and hated them, planes werent ontime and seats were not comfy. PLEASE HELP

For our January 2002 trip our tickets on American Airline went on sale 9/4 but I think at that time they were running their specials early. Last year they went on sale for December in Aug. I would wait until Aug/Sept to see if there is any specials on American.

I would register with http://www.travelocity.com or perhaps
http://www.expedia.com or check http://www.orbitz.com
They will email you when fares change or you can visit their site frequently til you get an idea of a good price. Then you can purchase through them or go directly to the airlines and buy your ticket. At least you'll have a good idea of a fair price. I am from the east cost. I am of the opinion a fair airfare to most major airports in the continental US is usually in the 200-250 range if you can hit it right. But I have never checked CA to FLA rates.
Airfares are not based on miles. I can usually fly to FLA frm MA cheaper than I can to many other closer destinations. Hope it works out for you.
