How long should it take to get from Legoland to DL on a Monday evening?

We'll be leaving Legoland I assume when it closes at 5, and heading to Anaheim. We had thought about staying in Carlsbad to have dinner to avoid traffic, but would like to pick up our tickets at DL that evening, assuming we can get there in time for there to still be some ticket windows open. Any ideas how bad the traffic should be, or how long it would take us?

If you leave LL at 5pm, you will be driving into a disaster of traffic. It will also take some time to leave LL and get onto the freeway. If you go and eat, and leave at 7pm it will be cleared up. Leaving at 5pm it will take 90-120 minutes. Leaving at 7pm about 65 minutes since you will be beding the traffic.

The problem is the ticket booths may close not long after 8pm with the early closing on Monday a slow day for crowds at DLR. When it's busier you can usually find one open until about an hour after park closing, because Main Street is still open and busy that long.

What I would do, is at least take my time leaving LL. I have gone and saved Miniland for the end after the rides close. That lets me see it with less crowds and I didn't miss time during the day for the rides. There is some fast food and chains nearby and of course a lot just off the freeway as you go north.

In Anaheim you can exit on onto Harbor, not the Disneyland exit from the carpool lane, to the far right after it that. Take Harbor south, go past the stop light where the crosswalk into DLR is. Just past that light is a entrence into the drop off area, you can park there for 15 minutes, or let someone wait in the car. That drop off may be busy.

You are the best, thank you! Do you think leaving at 6 helps at all, or is it still 2 hrs?

I don't think the traffic will be bad at all. It will slow a bit here and there but nothing major. Last time we left LL at 5p, we slowed to 20-30 mph through Lake Forest, but it was 50 - 60 mph the rest of the way.

If you leave at 6, there will still be heavy traffic. The problem is the traffic is coming from SD and it takes them a long time to even get to Carlsbad where Legoland is, and you are joining in with that traffic.

You are probably going to be close to a 90 minute drive at that time. Traffic will be moving well by the time you get upto the carpools lanes.

It probably also depends on what you are used to. If you live in southern Utah then yes the traffic in Orange County seems bad. Compared to Seattle the traffic in Orange County is not bad at all.

Perhaps so. However I have spent a lot of time traveling that section of the 5 since I was once a SoCal local.
