we would like to have dinner at Ohana's and then go out to the beach for WISHES...how long does an average dinner take there considering the "entertainment " for the children?

I'd give it 2 hours. Both times we had dinner at Ohana we had to wait...both times was with a PS. The meal itself doesn't take long since it's family style...you don't really have to wait for the food.

We have eaten there twice, both times with a 5:00pm PS and both times we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. The meal itself took about 1 hour both times.
If I really wanted to see Wishes, I would be sure to booked at least 1 1/2 hours in advance, but Id feel safer with 2 hours like Skuttle said. :)

princess lovers mom, I'm sorry I do not have anything to add since we have never been to Ohana's. I am, however, thinking of going there for our August trip and have read about people watching Wishes from a window seat. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how much before the scheduled wishes for that night do you make the ps for. Thanks for any responses. Enjoy your meal and trip Princess lovers mom. :D

When my dh and I made a trip to disney sans-kids this past fall, we enjoyed a dinner at Ohana. Despite being there early in the evening AND during the off-season (and having no problem getting a PS only days before!!), we had at least a 45 minute wait (plus arriving early!) until we were seated at a table for 2. Although our view of the castle was magical, we were too early to view the fireworks. Our dinner lasted at least an hour, which was surprising long considering it was early in our trip and we hadn't gotten used to having uninterrupted, adult conversations yet.

Took us about 15 minutes to get seated (with PS's, I don't know how long it would be without them) and we took about and hour and a half to eat and enjoy the atmosphere :D

What does this mean? Is it like at the restaurant at the land where they just bring out a platter and you all share it? You dont' get a menu to order from?

No, there is no menu. When you are seated they bring you pineapple bread. From our experience, within minutes we were give an appetizer platter. This consists of chicken wings, beans, shrimp wontons, rice and salad. If you finish that or want more of any specific item, they will bring you more.
Shortly after that they start coming around with skewers of meat. We have had turkey, beef, shrimp, and pork, but Ive heard there have been some changes to that recently. Im not sure if those changes are permanent or just trials. For dessert they give you pineapple with caramel dipping sauce. There are more desserts you can order, but you pay extra for those.
Kids can also order an alternative meal, but again, they arent given a menu for that. If the waiter doesnt offer it you just have to ask.

camcolt, the menu was just this 2 weeks ago with the meats you have stated. Yes, the food came out pretty quickly but we had to wait 15 minutes for our PS too. The kids did the hula-hooping and we lingered over our food to try and give our body time to get more food in!
So I think 2 hours is a good time estimate. BTW, we loved it here and all the food was gorgeous.

Watch Wishes from the Ohanas. We did this for the first time last April and LOVED it. We were just getting our pineapple and caramel (omg this is so good) as Wishes was beginning. It was better than the beach because you can hear the music since they have it piped in. Wishes began for us that night at 9:30 (on the website it had said 9:00) so I made our PS for 8:00. It took about 20 minutes to be seated but we did request a window seat. Ohanas is our favorite restaurant. We took my niece and her family when we were there in November. They loved it. Their 4 yr old son ordered from the kids menu and didn't touch it. He ate the steak. LOL I getting Ohanas withdraw.

1 tip, if you get a piece of meat (steak, pork, or turkey that you think is too dry then just push it to the side and wait til they bring you more. When I see people on here complain about that I think its not like you only get 1 piece.

Enjoy and have a Lapu Lapu for me or a lava Flow.

Oh I think I need a Disney Weekend.

Ohana's sounds like a great place to eat AND you get the Wishes viewing to boot. Here's the question : I'll be there in November with my DS11, just the two of us. Would you reccomend Ohana's on my MK day or a boat ride to WL for dinner at Whispering Canyon?

We had a 5PM PS the night we had tickets to MVMCP. It took about 10-15 to get seated. Food came right away. The entire meal took about 1 hour. Then we took the monrail into MK for the party. It worked so well, I think we are going to do Ohana again the night we do MVMCP.

Having eaten at both several times I have to say that these are two entirely different dining experiences. The food is different and so is the atmosphere. At WC expect rowdy fun--it's extremely casual and almost feels as though you are part of a very large indoor family barbeque, and being brought food by one of your aunts or uncles.
Ohana provides fun activities for the children, but is more low key and less "participatory" for adults--a more relaxing meal experience.
The food is really good (and plentiful) at both. I prefer Ohana's, but a good case could be made for either depending on the atmosphere you want. The other perk that someone else also mentioned is that depending on the time you go, you will be able to watch Wishes from Ohana's. This is not available at WC.

We made PS just yesterday. We will be celebrating out 25 anniversary with our family of 5. I asked if we could get seating so that we can see the fireworks but they said the seating is limited. Any comments on this ?
