How long have you been at your present employer?

I worked retail as a senior in high school and then a couple years beyond that. Are people still as grouchy around the holidays? We'd get some downright nasty people at Sears.

oh yeah...they are worse around the holidays. It's like, when you're supposed to have the 'spirit of christ' in you....they bite your head off when you are out of product or not fast enough to check them out... lol..
Ohwell...kill em with kindness I say :upsidedow

Tell me:rotfl2:

Mom worked in retail a million yrs ago so we were always taught to be nice in the stores. But now that I've worked in retail, oh boy. And the 2 worst weekends of the yr are Thanksgiving weekend and now VA Tax free weekend. They don't pay me enough to work another 1 of those TF weekends. :rotfl2:

Its funny...but I guess retail is for me. Those are my two FAVORITE times to work. Black Friday is so busy that I love it. It's fun to watch the people swarm in at 4am when the doors open. And, we just had tax free weekend and we were pulling racks off the floor stuff was selling so fast!
I like it :goodvibes

One thing about being busy......it sure seems to make the time pass quicker. I know when i was waiting tables if it was busy the night seemed to just speed by, if it was slow I though closing would never come.

9 years... The world would be a much better place if everyone was forced to work retail for a year!

I don't mind Black Friday so much. The 4am shift is great cause then you get done so quick. You hardly know it. The TF weekend is worse because you get that same BF crowd all weekend long and they want to know why there's no extra stock for stuff. Yeah that's right we ordered a whole truck of BTS stuff just for you:rolleyes:

This is why I'm glad I don't close anymore, because if you're not busy then it takes forever. Course the bright side is you're out the door 5 minutes after the doors are locked. Quick walk around for stragglers and that's it.

Ya know i think you're right. Then ppl would realize just how much we have to do with so few resources and little time to do it in. And just how much control we DON'T have.

I am 19 years w/ my company.
I often tell people you have not paid your dues until you have worked in retail and food service. I have done both. :)

I've been doing Software Development for 8 years.
5 years with Kodak.
1 year with a small software company
2 years at current company (manufacturing).

Sadly, it seems that in my field, the only way to make more than a 4% raise each year is to jump ship every few years.

I'm starting school year #13 at this school. (I can still hear my Union Rep telling me that it was an "entry level job".....and I'm still here.) But the job is just less than half-time, and I'm home by 11:30 every day. Since my 92 year-old Mom lives with DH & I, it's about the only job I can have right now.

I've worked for the same federal agency for 31 years and 3 months.

7 years. 28 years in the business (Software Development). Retiring from this field at the end of the year. :cool1:

17 years and in this economy, I'm grateful every day :) Hey, Galahad:wave2:

I started as a contractor about 11 months ago; I was hired full time by the bank on May 17. :goodvibes

22 wonderful years :thumbsup2 best job in the world! I started when I was only 19 years old:banana:

Retired for 4 years now after 37 years with the same employer.

Wow! great JOB George!

I have worked in the same office for 22 years...I"m planning to stick it out for another 8 years.
