How long for expedited passports?

I am so mad at ourselves. We have been planning this trip forever and now we are leaving on April 15, with no passports.

I know the State Department lists a 55 dollar expedite fee, does anyone know what time frame this is. I can't seem to find the answere on the State Department's websit.

I know there are companys that can do them with in a week or less but the fee's would be about 300 extra, ontop of all regular fees including the expedite fee the State Department charges.

amtmommy, you can use birth certificates and a picture id, none of the ports you'd be stopping at require a passport.

If you decide to expedite a passport, be sure to have a spare Birth Certificate available. You have to send your certified BC in with your application for passport. So that way you'd be covered if your passport did not arrive in time.

We applied at the local post office but not all post offices process them. My DH got his expedited passport in 8 business days. My DD and DS got theirs (not expedited) in about 3 1/2 weeks.

Make sure your birth certificate is CERTIFIED. Mine had a raised seal but was not certified and I'd didn't find out until I applied for a passport. Now I waiting for my certified passport so I can complete the application process for my passport.
