How long for dinner at Ohana?

We have an ADR for a Wed night Nov. 30.: DH, myself, 6 yr old, and 2 yr old. We chose Ohana because we are staying at the Poly and liked the idea of the kids being entertained. My questions are:

How long should we expect to be there for dinner? We will be there right at opening. I ask because we were hoping to be able to shoot over to the MK to see Spectro at 7 pm.

Also, this early in the evening, do they have the kids hula hoops contests and coconut races? or do these activities not start until later? Will my 2 year old be able to join in? My 6 year old is rather shy and reserved and I am sure would enjoy watching but my 2 yr old jumps right into everything.

If anyone can share their recent experiences dining early and on a weeknight here I would really appreciate it.

If I am cutting it close time wise I may need to reschedule dinner here for another night.

Thanks,

J

I haven't eaten at 'Ohana but asked this same question the other day and was told 1 1/2-2 hours...we had similar circumstances with wanting to be somewhere by 6:30 with a 5:00 seating and the responses were that we were definitely pushing it. I would think that would also be true with wanting to get to the MK before Spectro starts at 7:00; hopefully someone will correct me if that isn't the case.

Also...I'm not sure of your exact trip dates but I thought I'd mention that rescheduling might not be an option depending on your dates because the restaurant is pretty well booked. We've been trying to get an early dinner cancellation for a while now because the only dinners available from 11/30-12/5 are later than 8:45--eep!

Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip:)

On average, dinner takes around 45 to 60 minutes. It could vary a little depending on how much you want and how busy the servers are. If you are there as soon as it opens, you can generally get out by 6 with no problems.

The games vary on their start times. We have found that we can see all the games no matter what time we get there. They try to space things out so this will happen.

Your 2 year old will be able to do the coconut race but will probably need help. There are alot of kids and if nothing else will probably need a body guard to keep from being hit with a broom. I'm not sure about the hula hoops since they are probably too young it properly.

We like going early and have always been able to do everything that we wanted there and still get out easily. We have never felt rushed either.

It usually takes us 1.5 - 2 hours when we eat at 'Ohana, for two adults. I think you'd definitely be pushing it, to get to the MK by 7pm, not to mention possibly not getting a great seat.

With the new menu, give or take 1.5 - 2 hours. Plus the waiting time between check-in and actual seating.

Seeing as their first seating is at 5pm IIR, you're really pushing it to get to MK by 7pm.

Oh Jeez,

I don't know what to do now. One poster says it is doable but most of you say no, so I guess I am leaning towards cancelling it and possible trying to reschedule it. We are doing the Ohana breakfast, which sounds like loads of fun so I guess if we can't do both dinner and b'fast this trip - there will always be next time. I want to be able to enjoy my dinner here without having to look at my watch and stress out.

Maybe we will just do room service this night. Or I can keep calling to try to get a cancellation for CP, which I have been trying for since last week. Best time they could give me was 3:45pm for dinner. That is just too early for us.

Thanks for all your help you guys.

How about Kona Cafe? Getting an ADR there for me has never been a problem, even the day of. It is generally a quicker restaurant too (last time took us a little less than an hour) and the food is great! Just a thought.

We ate there two weeks ago with the new menu and were out of there in just about an hour and didn't feel rushed. There were bigger groups that came in after us and left before us as well. It all depends on how much you get to eat. Based on all of our experiences eating there, I still think you should be able to make it to MK.

We were 3 adults in mid-October and it took us between 1.5 -2 hours. Our ADR was for later in the evening and we had to wait to be seated. I am not sure of the early seating, but my feeling is that you would be pushing and and that you would feel stressed and rushed. I would re-schedule if it was me.

we ate our first dinner of our trip at kona on 11/9/05. no adr's were available-they suggested we show up at 5pm-we did and were seated in 10 mnutes. the food is very good-we were on the dining plan-our total bill for 5 adults(kids are 17, 16 & 14) was $205-our most expensive meal while at wdw-try the tropical mousse-it was fab! :cheer2:

It took us around 1 hour to get through with dinner at 'Ohana, and we didn't have seconds on any of the meats.
