...For amoxacillin(sp?) capsuls to kick in?

I have had a brutal sore throat for 2 days now. I finally broke down and went to the doctor. She didnt bother checking for strep throat because it looked so bad anyway, she was going to give me the same medicine whether it was strep or not. So, how long should I expect to wait for this pain to start to ease up?

If you just started the medicine, I'd give it a couple days. I hope you do feel better soon.

I have the same thing. But the amoxicillan is for the infection. Try taking some advil for the pain, It is working wonders here. I can actually eat.

I would say you should see improvement in 3 days. You won't feel 100% for awhile. I hope it's not viral, then the meds won't help at all and it will just have to run it's course. Gargle, Tylenol/Advil or Cloraseptic spray.

I just wanted to send some ******pixie dust***** and hope you'll be feeling better soon.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Even if I was hoping to hear "The first dose should kick in almost immediately." LOL!

It took 2 days last week for me to final feel better. {{HUGS}} I was sick all last week and work was unbearable. I hope you feel better soon.

Typically by the second night of taking it you should feel better, but make sure you continue to take it until it's all gone.

Sorry that's the Mom in me talking :D

LOL, "mom"! I will, trust me! I dont want this pain to come back. Not to toot my own horn but, Im usually a trooper with pain or sickness. When I worked, I never missed a day for being sick. I even worked full time up until 17 hours before I gave birth. I have given birth twice with no pain meds. But I am being a big wimp about this throat thing. Either Im getting soft in my old age, or this is really bad! Everytime I swallow it feels like my head is going to explode. And the pain from the throat is making me nauseous. Hopefully I will lose a few lbs since I can barely eat.
JAP, that is definitely the word for it..."unbearable"!
Thanks for the well wishes.

That Chloraseptic is a life-saver. I carried it around with me for about six months right before I got my tonsils removed. It seems like I had a sore throat my whole life; I feel your pain. You just feel like letting the drool run out of your mouth; it hurts so bad to swallow it.

I think the second day, but I really don't know.

Exactly! Last night I said to DH I need one of those dentist sucky things that go in your mouth and suck out the spit.

I usually start to feel relief from the other symptoms (like headache, dizzyness, etc.) after about 2 doses, but it takes a while for the sore throat to go away, especially if your throat is raw from coughing or stuff draining on it. I agree that Advil is a lifesaver when your throat hurts really badly. For some reason, I can't stand Chloraseptic or drops that deaden your mouth. Not being able to feel my tongue completely freeks me out. :teeth:
