How long does it take for an "oops" to show up on the scale?

Last night we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant to celebrate my DD's b-day (today). I had a loosely formulated plan to stay within points. I was going to count out the tortilla chips and only eat 12 and then order something from the "lighter selections". I didn't eat much at all during the day to save my points, and I realize now that wasn't necessarily a good thing because I went there too hungry. Plus DH got home late and we didn't get to the restaurant till 8:00. I ended up eating the tortilla chips like there was no tomorrow. I did order an enchalada salad, which was basically an enchalada with a bunch of lettuce & tomato on top. When the waitress asked if I wanted rice & beans with that my brain said no but my mouth said yes. And she asked if I wanted it with chicken and again I said yes. I didn't end up eating it all because I got full but I ate most of it.

Plus today we'll have pizza & birthday cake and we're taking a bunch of kids to the movies so there will be movie theater popcorn!!! YIKES! If I can behave with the temptations today I'm hoping yesterday's meal won't set me back too far. Those tortilla chips were positively glistening from the fat, but at that moment I didn't care. I know I need to be able to enjoy a meal every now and then without beating myself up so that doesn't bother me, but it does bother me a little that I felt out of control.

But back to my original question, how long does it generally take for an "oops" to show up on the scale?

Sorry so long. Anyway, no one is wiping the smile off my face today. My precious DD is 14 and I'm HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!!!

I have always heard it takes 2-3 days for your oops to actually show up. It takes the body awhile to process the food and store the fat. I feel so bad for you having to feel this guilt over a meal you enjoyed and wanted. How bout today make it a goal to only have one slice of pizza or if your eating in the resarant order some plain spagetti with a salad w/ff dressing instead and a couple glasses of water ought to make you feel totally full and the carb's might get you pass the popcorn you want at the movies. If you know your gonna eat the popcorn can you get some of the lf popcorn from home and pop it right before you go in? Or ask for a small popcorn w/o butter on it. I know it's hard when it comes to celebrating with your family but you've got to ask yourself does it taste good enough that you don't mind wearing it? I wish you the best and will send strong willed vibes your way. I hope you have a great day and remember drink that water!

Oh, Liz, Mexican is my big weakness!!!! We went out Tuesday night to a Mexican place and I had tortilla chips galore, the biggest margarita on the rocks they make, and half an order of gooey, cheese covered nachos. D'OH!!!! I just decided to make that my "cheat night" instead of the regularly scheduled Friday night cheat night.

Even if you DID eat 3500 calories (which you probably didn't) then that would only be a one pound gain. So hopefully since you were on plan the rest of the week, you will still see a small loss or at least maintain. PLEASE say no to pizza and popcorn today!!!! :) I went to the movies right after I started WW and thankfully nobody around me was eating popcorn! As soon as we opened the door to the theater I was assualted by that wonderful buttery smell, but I felt GREAT after the movie was over knowing that I didn't fall off the wagon.

Sending you lots of will power pixie dust to stay on plan today!!! :) I don't now how long it will take an ooops to show up on the scale, but try not to worry about it. What's done is done and I'm sure you enjoyed your Mexican meal! :) How did you sleep? I slept horrible after we ate out. I ate way too much and it felt very heavy in my tummy after. I enjoyed it when I was eating it, but regretted it later when I had trouble sleeping. Funny how our bodies adjust. Now I prefer to feel not too full.

Hugs and hang in there!!!

I slept good last night (just not long enough)! My stomach still has that full feeling this morning but not stuffed.

I told my DD that I'll probably drop her and her friends off at the movies and pick them up so I can get things ready for the party at home. So that will eliminate the popcorn temptation!!

Liz, you know you can't worry about yesterday. Just worry about today. Sounds like you have a plan for dealing with that popcorn. I wonder if I will ever be able to go to another movie, the smell of that popcorn is just overwhelming for me. It's easier for me to avoid it completely.

You might show some water gain from your oops. But unless you ate like 5000 calories on that oops day, I don't see how you could actually gain a pound of weight. Unless they've changed all the rules about gaining and losing weight. That's possible, I suppose.

Concentrate on today and forget about yesterday. You can't go back and change it, so don't beat yourself up over it.

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie. The very fact that you are concerned about this tells me you are determined and motivated to reach your goal. I'm proud of you.

It's all about balance. You can over eat one day and cut back a bit the next few days and it will all balance out. Or if you KNOW that you are going to have an "OOPS" then you can cut back a bit for a few days before. One day or one meal will NOT set you back, unless you look at it as an excuse to give up.
