How long do you think the quiet will last?

I am guessing they’re rolling out the discounts one at a time to see the reaction. I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney Visa cardholders were next.
If they throw a Disney Visa discount into the mix and it is better than my dining recovery, I may end up rebooking!

If they are seeing light bookings, then I'm curious why there aren't more discounts available to non cast members/non passholders right now?

I think Disney doesn't really want to incentivize non-CMs/non-AP holders to come right now, especially from out of state. I think the reason for the AP/FL Resident discounts is that Disney will make more money off of those people (who tend to be local) if they stay on-site instead of just dropping in for a day or staying off-site, even if they aren't paying rack rates. Right now, those people are the most likely to attend anyways and to the extent that Disney's reduced capacity at the resorts still allows for more rooms to be booked, they might as well try to get those people to stay on-site.

^^Oh I agree. I didn't mean to imply that Disney was making money on the parks right now, just that they are losing less money than if they were to remain closed.

I bet it all magically goes back to normal mid November after the election. Regardless of the outcome in November, the narrative will have been played out and the media will come up with something else to scare everyone with.

You have got to be kidding? Have you seen the numbers in Florida, Texas and California lately

The only thing stopping us are both the Florida and New York quarantine mandates. Once those are lifted, I'd imagine the parks can expect an influx of many of us from upstate New York :)

LOL... yep, 195 countries and billions of people are all playing along for the sake of the USA, it’s 350 million citizens and their politics. :-P

The "numbers" are being manipulated to keep everyone in a state of fear...that is the exact problem.

I don't trust any of it. The only "number" that matters is deaths....and so far less people have died in 2020 from covid and the flu combined then they did in 2019. I agree covid exists.....but it is not the work ender we are being told it is. yes, elderly are at risk...but normal healthy people.....are at no more risk then they are at getting the flu....practice good hygiene and you have nothing to worry about.

I bet until there’s a vaccine or next spring. I think winter flu season will be tricky to navigate since flu symptoms look like Covid.

and who gets rich off the vaccine? ...follow the money........ then add to it the database they want to create regarding who has been vaccinated....now big brother gets to track the public even more.

Wow, calm down, please. FWIW I am not disagreeing with you. Really- I am not. Just stating my idea of when it may calm down. I am in Massachusetts and our phase 4 will not begin until medical intervention is available. I can see other companies/entities following suit. I imagine once restrictions are loosened people may want to travel more. Whether waiting for medical intervention is an appropriate course of action, or if medical intervention even is a good idea I do not know and wasn’t trying to debate that on a Disney forum. I understand this is a frustrating and difficult time for many people.

Until there is a vaccine, but really longer than that. Reason being, once there is a vaccine the ride capacities can go back to normal. Thankfully, lots of good news on the vaccine front;
Latest COVID Vaccine news

We had to cancel our August resort reservation due to the travel restrictions of both CT and FL. We rescheduled to December, and had nearly any pick of any open resort we wanted, even more than half of DVC resorts have availability, which is unheard of for December.

There's a lot of reasons why it's slow and will stay slow:

Travel restrictions to and from FL from other states, positive cases that were projected to go down but are now going up, FL cases that are out of control right now, threat and worry about a re surge of the virus, no international travel, no tour groups, no conventions, no sporting events (Pop Warner), no competitions, reduced hours, no fireworks, parades, or meet and greets, few, if any special events, mask requirements, and I could go on.

I think it'll be low and quiet for at least the end of the year. And possibly through the winter months, depending on how things go.
I was looking at the calendar and they have 100% availability on Christmas... Thats crazy .. the only park that is showing full everyday is HS.

and I am not normally an anti vaccine type of person. This just all feels very rushed. and in our current WORLD political climate...it seems every side is pushing an agenda. So i tend to trust only what I can put together from my own research.

I hope at least until our trip in a few weeks....selfishly.

I don't see crowds changing anytime soon. No discounts are being offered and likely won't be until they can up their capacity. If WDW can keep guests coming at lower capacity and higher rates, there's no incentive to discount anything. Disney has not publicized their crowd limit max capacities right now but it's obvious they're not hitting it just looking at their PP reservation system. Looks like Disney is keeping AP holders out of DHS but the other larger parks are still open even for the coming weeks and into August. Crowds increase predictions.....

- when the general public can travel without restrictions, like quarantine or can travel from out of the country to the US;
-economy has more people working
- when new cases decline. Even though in most of the US daily deaths are down, people are still scared and; lastly
-a vaccine is released

Disney has a long road back to their pre-covid numbers ahead of them. I'm excited to head back and have a chance to get some of that disney magic!

I don't doubt that you are not alone in your feelings. I get a flu shot and so do my kids every year. In a normal year, we average only 40% of adults (60% kids) of the US pop receiving a flu vaccine so my gut tells me few people outside of high risk groups will be lining up for a covid vaccine. If they got 50% that would be a success.

Due to flight times, our plan for 1st week in Aug trip was to stay in Orlando the night we come in and the night before we fly out. Due to COVID #s in FL we got skittish about that plan and decided to look into extending the DVC stay on each end and stay entirely inside the Disney bubble. Making a change like that a couple of weeks before we travel seemed impossible and we steeled ourselves for a split stay at best. Surprise - BLT has full availability, every view category. It's going to cost us points we did not intend to use, but we'll deal with that down the road.

On the original topic, I'm casting a vote for Thanksgiving being when attendance picks up again. I think the rest of the summer will be a ghost town because of high virus rates, and once school starts parents won't be keen to pull their kids out school when so much school has been missed already this spring. I imagine most of the bookings will be last-minute, though, with most people taking a wait and see approach.
