How long do you think it will be before Canadians reach safe Covid vaccination levels?

Although it has some differences from Ontario's [https://covid-19.ontario.ca/covid-19-vaccines-ontario] I would not be surprised if it ends up being like Ontario in that that "Phase 3" will actually be more nuanced and not a free for all... i.e. it is going to have sub phases within it with prioritization before you finally end at a point where it genuinely is anyone who wants it first ocme first served [but at that point most people who want to be will have been vaccinated through priority groups].

I read a nice document/article the other day that laid out Ontario;s plan in a bit more detail and it spoke to that nuancing and gave some dates, but can't find it again.
I hope there will be sub groups, daughter works in a daycare, she wears mask but of course the children don’t. Husband is a senior but under 80 and has CPOD. And I’m diabetic, ugh.
I think you’re right, it’s just a generalized list right now and will have more details after 1st group is finished.

We are slow as molasses. My friend is an OR nurse and she was telling me that she is friends with someone in the hospital from Israel and they have already vaccinated over 7.5% of their population with 24 hours per day vaccinations. The was a few days ago, so it's likely much higher now.

Interesting. You are right.

ourworldindata.org gives the stats for vaccines given per 100 people in many countries around the world.

We are 0.26% vaccinated but Israel is well over 11.55%. Even the USA has us well and truly beaten at 0.84%! And they are upset because at that rate it will take years! The same is true in Canada. The difference is that in the USA there are at least starting to set up a plan to pick up the pace.
As far as I can tell, all we have is the identification of groups to vaccinate.
Stating which groups you plan to vaccinate in order is NOT a plan to get the vaccine rollout done! It is a start, but knowing who will be vaccinated is not the same as knowing how. What is the plan to quickly get these shots into peoples' arms? is anyone even asking about this in Canada? Even allowing for only about 1/2 the population, it still means about 20 million people or 40 million shots.

So, at the current rate of vaccination, it will be many years before we are vaccinated to herd immunity levels. Is there a plan to get more vaccines? We don't have any to distribute on the island in NL right now. The Moderna vaccines that are coming soon are all going to Labrador to First Nations. That is fine, but this is going to take a very long time if we have to wait weeks between having access to vaccines.
If what I read online is correct:
In the last two weeks of vaccinations, we. have apparently only managed to vaccinate 70,000 nation wide. That is beyond slow.

Does anyone know anything about the plans for distribution and rollout?

They expect to have both the US and Canada vaccinated to herd immunity levels THIS year. The US expects to hit it by summer, Canada by fall. We have millions upon millions more doses coming this year.

LOL! Looks like you are doing fine! Much better than I am.

I expect that almost everyone will want one - that's 38 million people!

Remember, children can't be vaccinated this year. So knock that down by a good 10 million people. Still a big number yes, but honestly, I see it as doable. Also, to reach herd immunity, they only need 60% of the people (though they're aiming for 75%). So that takes it down to 21 million ideally, or 16.8 million minimum.

From all the reports I have read, children will be able to be vaccinated this year. But it won't happen until late summer or in the fall. Since our trip is scheduled for the first week of December, I can live with that time line :P

We are booked the same time! Seriously, I keep my eye on that prize and pray we can all have needles in arms and take that trip. Maybe it’s silly, but I sure miss travelling with my family—more than anything else during this pandemic.

Our workplace consists of 15 people and 14 don’t want it. I am very curious about what percentage of the population don’t want it. That will affect how this all plays out.

I am in a similar situation. Out of 30 employees, 15 want the vaccine. We run at 66% cooperation for our bi weekly Covid tests, so sad. I got my first vaccine on Dec 29’th with the second on the 18’th of January. No sore arm, no reactions, all good.

I’m guessing you work at long term care home or similar? I don’t get how people can get away with not getting tested and still work. It should be mandatory if you are working with vulnerable people. I can understand not forcing the vaccine. But testing? That’s just irresponsible

At a retirement home....but with many vulnerable people who should be in long term care. Yes, it is very irresponsible of some coworkers But that’s JMHO.

It depends on your health region and level of care. In ours we aren’t required to test all employees daily, but we do put people off work and require testing for any COVID symptom - including headaches. They are also screened twice a day for symptoms and need to wear PPE at all times.

What I was told is that they currently aren’t putting any regs in place for COVID vaccination in LTC/AL because there simply isn’t enough vaccine for everyone. I do expect that to change when we have more vaccine -considering we put people off work if they haven’t had a flu shot during a flu outbreak, I can’t see us allowing people to continue to work during a pandemic without a COVID vaccination by choice.

I’m fortunate in the case that only 2 out of our 98 employees do not want to get the vaccine. And one I think will change their mind.

I encourage those who are alarmed at the slow rate of vaccinating in your area, to email, message, post on your MPP and city councillor's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter accounts. Our elderly and vulnerable are dying at alarming rates of this virus, and many are sick, while doses sit and sit in freezers. Those in charge are paid very good money and have had time to figure this out, especially for stage 1. The Red Cross has offered to help with vaccinations, and the family doctor association has offered help to go into LTC facilities to help vaccinate at a faster pace. Everyone should let their elected officials at all levels know how they feel the Province and city are doing.

I agree, but I don't know where to even find info on what's being done and how fast. It's just not making the news, as far as I can see. Maybe that's telling.

Ontario has info on how many daily and total doses administered, about half-way down on this page: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/covid-19-vaccines-ontario

They do not provide info on how many doses the province has taken delivery of; that info would have to be found elsewhere.

Not sure if other provinces have similar info available.
