How long do you think it will be before Canadians reach safe Covid vaccination levels?

While I have not seen an updated delivery schedule to Canada, they were the most aggressive country as far a pre-purchasing at 9 doses for each citizen or about 5 vaccinations pre person. as with most countries it is going to take the AZ/oxford vaccine or similar ones to really do broad vaccinations.

AZ/ Oxford Vaccine
Is still being reviewed by Health Canada
The article does say they are in contact with United Kingdom's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) ."The Department is working closely with international regulators, including the U.K. MHRA, to share information and data on vaccines currently under review. to gain their info also."

While waiting is very hard we do want to be safe.

COVID-19 Tracker Canada - Vaccination Tracker

Here is a daily vaccine tracker for Canada. Helpful info for those that want to see how it is going in there own province, and across Canada
I would like to see a percentage of doses given, and the percent of population. I'd also like to know the "plan" for getting everyone done. I realize it's probably a work in progress, but it would be nice to have some idea of what's going on to help with expectations. I can wait until Sept, but I'd rather have it by April.

Isn't some of that info (not the plan) kind of in the bottom part of the tracker? In the doses by province chart?

Sounds like Trudeau and the premiers will discuss it this week to really get the ball rolling. Where I am high risk population and front line workers are getting Moderna now and the general population will start getting it in March. Hopefully that combined with various lockdowns happening now will cause new cases to slow and be able to start opening up this world again.

Does anyone see us going into a country wide lockdown again like the UK ? We don’t have the population density they have so that’s an argument against a country wide lockdown. However we do have very dense areas like the greater Toronto area for example , and the UK variant will spread it like wildfire. They think currently that 1 in 50 people have Covid in the UK. I don’t think the current lockdown in Ontario is going to be over at the 28 day mark. It will likely be extended. Just curious what others are thinking ?
I wonder if we will be on some sort of lockdown until we get a significant percentage of our population vaccinated.

They have been talking about school staying online (at least from the rumours I heard for Ottawa) so I can imagine them staying locked down longer than the 28 days. I guess it will depend on the numbers after the holidays, so in two-ish weeks? Nothing has really changed for me with this one, except I have to preorder my dog food and get it curb side pick up instead of going into the store to get it. I am glad Walmart here at least has more grocery times than when this started in March, I couldn't get anything for weeks at a time, but now I can get in the next day or two. Much easier.

Any way, I really liked that website @Susan2771 posted, seems to be great for keeping track of the vaccine rollout. I hope to see it speed up now that holidays are over and they are better prepared.

Even in the 'country wide lockdown' from last Spring, it was different from each province. Here in BC we had more open than other provinces even in our lockdown. So it won't ever be like the UK, esp since it's such a small land mass with a dense population compared to Canada.

Our internet/cable provider had a huge wifi outage today. While my son had enough data to go online, most of the K-12 students and teachers didn't. His class went off line and homework was posted.

It showed a huge vulnerability where people thought we were starting outsmart this virus. If that outage had been Rogers or Shaw and for more than a few hours, I think there would have been a huge outcry in the lockdown strategy.

All this is workaround and it has to be short term. People won't stand for this to become our way of life, particularly when we are one outage away from isolation.

Cogeco ? We were out for a few hours today too and even their website went down.

Speaking of not standing for this much longer ...

It was just posted on CBC that the CEO of St. Josephs and Niagara Health went to the Dominican Republic for Christmas Break.

I‘m beyond angry. Healthcare workers are exhausted and scared, people are sick and dying in record numbers every single day, the rest of us are confined to our homes .. and the CEO of our health system goes on vacation ???!!?? He’s a doctor... he KNOWS better. Was it illegal ? No. Was it completely unethical and a slap in the face to the doctors and nurses working their tails off ? Yes. Did he just effectively destroy the credibility of the public health message that they are trying to get us all to understand ? Yes .
I‘m so done with all of this :sad1:

I think it all depends on our hospitals.

We had a similar situation here in Alberta. The MLA who was a part of the vaccine roll-out plan for the province, went to Hawaii for her family's "traditional family get away" that they have done for the past 17 years :furious: She was either asked to step down from her elite position or she actually resigned from that...But such a slap in the face that she would do that while in Dec we had more restrictions implemented ( which needed to happen to get our #'s start to trend down). It was big f-you finger in the face, that we chose to stay home, not go spend christmas with the kids and GD OR get together with the family that we have here. And this MLA is from my city, and the people here are furious. It was such a slap in the face.

Like I said to the dh...I guess we should have done what we talked about doing, and just pay for all 6+GD to go to Mexico for Christmas instead. We had talked about doing it, thinking it was the perfect time...with all of us having time off and not needing to take time off to quarantine with going through the Calgary airport and using the new travel program rolled out. But we decided to stay home...and do our part - because you just never know.

Or I guess we should have went to go stand shoulder to shoulder in the malls for boxing day specials too.

I am sooooo done with all of this. Double standards are every turn. I can't wait until this is all over and some level headed normalcy returns.
