How long do you think it will be before Canadians reach safe Covid vaccination levels?

So, at the current rate of vaccination, it will be many years before we are vaccinated to herd immunity levels. Is there a plan to get more vaccines? We don't have any to distribute on the island in NL right now. The Moderna vaccines that are coming soon are all going to Labrador to First Nations. That is fine, but this is going to take a very long time if we have to wait weeks between having access to vaccines.
If what I read online is correct:
In the last two weeks of vaccinations, we. have apparently only managed to vaccinate 70,000 nation wide. That is beyond slow.

Does anyone know anything about the plans for distribution and rollout?

I haven’t done a lot of research on the timeline because I know myself to be very impatient sometimes . So I heard the initial “every Canadian that wants one should have one by September” and went with that. I’m hoping it will be before that , and prepared for it to be slightly after.

I know there has been some big pressure this week because the rollout stopped for two days for the holidays and most think it shouldn’t have.

I’m sure I will find this thread informative because I’ve tuned a lot of it out and kept my head down to not get too attached to any timeframe . That’s been hands down the hardest part of all of this for me .. never having a guaranteed timeline on any of it . So I’m trying to be more zen about it. How am I doing ?:rolleyes1

LOL! Looks like you are doing fine! Much better than I am.

I can handle waiting my turn, but I want some idea when that will be and how they plan to get us there. I haven't seen much to inspire confidence so far, but I am hoping that I am just missing the information.

I am afraid that no one knows how or what they are doing

I would really like to be able to understand HOW they expect to get anywhere near every Canadian that wants one done by September. I expect that almost everyone will want one - that's 38 million people! 30+ weeks from now in September will be 76 million doses in arms. That means more than 2 1/2 million shots per week. That is a LOT of ramping up from about 35000 doses in a week! That is more than 70 X current rates and depends upon starting that fast right away. The logistics are staggering and I'm very afraid that it will prove near impossible.

Questions like:
When will the vaccines arrive? How regularly are they going to arrive? how many at a time? How and where will they be stored? Who is going to administer the vaccines? Where will they do the vaccinations? will they have vaccination clinics? How can they be done safely without becoming super spreader events?

I just want to understand the timeline and the actual rollout plan for getting these shots into arms.

I'm not reassured by a blanket statement "everyone will be done by September". Politicians have been known to fall short of promises like that.

It does seem slow, considering how many the US is doing at one time and they are disorganized about it. While I fully understand why they gave people Xmas holidays off, I don't know why they haven't got appts stacked up through all the rest of the time and why it wouldn't be something that could go on as fast as possible. Get the doses into arms and be done with it.

But, I'm not in healthcare, so maybe there are a lot of logistics I'm missing about all this.

I have to admit, April-Sept (which is probably July-Dec in reality) seems like a long way off.

I figure there are a lot of intricate logistics right now trying to get all of the most important vaccinations done. I am sure it is a lot more complicated than we imagine and takes a lot more staff than we imagine.

I agree I’m not comforted by this statement. And I thought the delays would be waiting for doses to arrive. But we aren’t even vaccinating to keep up with what we are receiving. I really don’t get why it’s taking so long considering it doesn’t take a long time to administer a vaccine. They should have trained more people to administer vaccines and being doing more people at once. This seems to just be common sense.

But as far as everyone who wants one. It’s not going to be the entire population. First off don’t include people under 18, it’s not approved for kids. Also there are people who can’t get vaccines for medical issues. And there is a significant amount of people who either want to wait a while or don’t want the vaccine at all.

I would say those who “want the vaccine” and can get it would be about 50% of the population.

Funny I was poking around the internet yesterday to try and find out how and when it will be my turn! Will health authorities contact me or do we have to apply?
I have a lot of faith in our Dr Henry & Health minister Dix. They have been super organized but like the rest of you, I’m looking for some answers.

Watching the CNN news, they’re complaining about slow roll out too.

Thanks. A little disappointed in priority list. Now it seems they’ve lumped seniors below 80, teachers and daycare workers as general population.

Although it has some differences from Ontario's [https://covid-19.ontario.ca/covid-19-vaccines-ontario] I would not be surprised if it ends up being like Ontario in that that "Phase 3" will actually be more nuanced and not a free for all... i.e. it is going to have sub phases within it with prioritization before you finally end at a point where it genuinely is anyone who wants it first ocme first served [but at that point most people who want to be will have been vaccinated through priority groups].

I read a nice document/article the other day that laid out Ontario;s plan in a bit more detail and it spoke to that nuancing and gave some dates, but can't find it again.

Our workplace consists of 15 people and 14 don’t want it. I am very curious about what percentage of the population don’t want it. That will affect how this all plays out.

My family will be in that final phase. I'd love to know what those nuanced groups will be like. Will I likely be April or September? Yeah, I know, probably September.

I think September is an accurate prediction. Vaccine is about to ramp up for the first groups (senior’s care) in BC. We’ve been told to expect vaccines at my workplace next week.
I’m hoping September (at the latest). I’m scheduled to travel November 2021 to use up 289 dvc points. Would rather not lose them. I’m prepared for that though.
